I stayed in this hotel with three other friends for three nights. When I checked out after the first night (to take a two-day side-trip), I asked the staff to keep our suitcases in the hotel and was refused. The staff claimed that it was hotel policy and said I could send my suitcases to some storage companies for six euros each per day. As we couldn't possibly tug the suitcases for the side-trip, we asked the staff to cancel our subsequent reservation for two nights. The staff, apparently worried about losing our business, talked to the manager on the phone and finally agreed to keep our suitcases on an exceptional basis at no charge. The whole exchange was very unpleasant and the so-called policy was quite absurd. A few days earlier, we did the exact same thing in another hotel in Florence (Hotel Continentale which by the way is excellent in terms of the rooms, service and location) and there was no hesitation at all from that hotel in acceding to our request.
The concierge service of this hotel is also less than satisfactory. We asked them to help us book tickets for the Colleseo and again they refused to do it. Instead the hotel asked us to book local tours (which would charge us much more). I fail to see any valid reason for their refusal to do something which would have incurred no cost to them.
Lastly, I do not know if it is just this hotel or all 'old' hotels in general. The bathroom (of all the rooms we stayed at) are quite smelly.
