I got a deal on this hotel from lastminute.com, and wasn't disappointed. The room was very clean and comfortable. It's right next to the train station -- a fair walk from the sights but great for me as I had to be up early to catch the express train to the airport. Staff were incredibly friendly -- allowed me to check in early and seemed genuinely keen to help. They even packed a breakfast for me because I had to leave early. I spent one other night at one of the other budget hotels nearby, and there was no comparison. I'd definitely stay at Hotel Aquarium again.

We got a friendly welcome upon arrival and the room was clean.
The breakfast is okay if you have a sweet tooth. The neighbourhood isn't really interesting, but the proximity to Termini Station is great.
For high season this room was not very expensive and you definitely get your money's worth.

Calling this place horrible is an understatement. The decor of the room was nasty and migraine inducing (clearly not been re-decorated since the 1970s), the fabric wallcovering was filthy and smelt. The room only had a small window and was so dark it resembled a prison cell. The aircon did not cool the room, however made enough noise to rival a jumbo jet - if that's what you're after than great if you wish to sleep not so great. The bathroom was tiny and looked like it could fall apart any second, and hot water elusive. (when I told the oger at reception about this, I was barked at and told to go back to my room and wait- naturally as a guest I shouldn't expect hot water- I'm clearly far too demanding) The staff were unhelpful, did not attempt to communicate with the guests, they just grunted or alternatively barked. The towels and sheets looked like they had been through the war, actually the towel was more fray than towel. The bed was like concrete and the pillows flat as pancakes, but i presume they are very concerned about their guests backs. To top off the wonderful night I spent there, the tv in the hotel lounge was on until 2am and the receptionist on night duty was clearly hard of hearing, sadly I'm not. Oh and then there were the bins outside our windows which stank (a pretty amazing achievement to smell bins 2 floors up) and were emptied by a big loud truck at 4am, really gets you into the local atmosphere. I didn't even stay for breakfast, I fled in hope of avoiding an imminent nervous breakdown. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL

Recommendable. Great hotel located close to the railway station Termini. Great if you after all are out the most of the day.

PROS:
- Location (close to Termini and some attractions: ex Forum Romanum etc.)
- Cosy hotel
- Okay clean rooms in quiet neighbourhood
- Small cosy family-owned hotel

CONS:
- Breakfast (not very inspireing)

Apr 3, 2008 | Trip type: Couples

PROS:
it is 2 block from the train/sub station
lots of local resturants, that serve great food for 1/2 what you pay downtown
breakfast is simple but good, coffee, juice, tea, breads and cereals
king size bed....very unusual in europe
individual ac unit
nice staff, fresh towels every day

CONS:
it is an older building
rooms are a little worn, bedspreads, curtains, wallpaper
showers are small......2 ft X 2 ft, is an accurate estimate
showering at non busy times for more pressure
mold in ceiling in bathroom, just a few coin size spots
depending where your room is located you can hear people in stariwell

OVERALL:
my hubby and I found this place to be a great value, nice staff and convient location to the subway. The neighborhood is a little dark at night and the trash dumpsters are full but, we never had any problems with beggars...I think because it is not in the "tourist" district. The resturants around the hotel are GREAT, they have friendly service, some offer english menus, and the prices are 1/2 of what you pay downtown. approx 5 euros fro a plain pizza, 3 euros for a cappachino, 8 euros for pasta and 6 euros for desserts. Downtown by the Piazza Spagna we paid 15 euros for a pizza!!! I found the breakfast each morning to be sufficent. It is a continental breakfast with breads, cereal, and fruits. We would stay here again. It was perfect for our budget...we wanted to spend more on experiences than our room, where we were for just hours.
