My wife and I spent 8 days here without any problem or inconvenience. Yes the hotel is 5 minutes walk away from the central (Termini) station and this is really handy because trains, metro and the main buss station are there as well. A train called "Leonardo" takes you from the airport "Fiumicino" (€ 11.00/person) in an half hour right to Termini and you will get off right at the exit to go to your hotel, very handy in deed! Buy a metro ticket for 3 days and you have access to "all" public transportation. In front of the hotel there's an "in building" market, worth visiting. Yes in the hotel neighborhood there are a lot of Asian people, all are in one or the other way related to plenty of Chinese wholesale places in that neighborhood, and NO these neighborhood id not dangerous just because there's Asian people around (you better watch for pick-pockets from other ethnic groups!). Hotel staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was OK, and as much as you wanted to eat. We experienced no excessive noise in or outside the hotel. Room cleanliness was 100%, only there head pillows are to thin and hard at my opinion, but.... Now last comment about Rome; this city is one large museum, lot to see, lots of walking if you want to see beaucoup. Take the effort and buy a good city tourist guide to not miss worthwhile "must see" spots. A city bus tour (open roof buses) is recommended for the first day, then start your journey on whatever you selected to see. There's plenty of restaurants, pizzerias, trattorias and alike, but believe me 99% of them will screw you one way or the other (laugh). A must is also to visit the most famous gelateria named Giolitti, they sell eventually 500kg of ice cream each day...go for it. Romans are nice people and the majority can express themselves in some English, so no problem on that side either. Enjoy Rome.....

Comfortable, well-run hotel with helpful staff. Not the most attractive location, but convenient for public transport and walking distance to Termini platforms. No dinner restaurant, but coffee and drinks in the bar a high point before bedtime. Breakfast caters for most tastes and very efficient. Would readily return to explore more of Rome from this base.

  • Liked — Feel of the rooms and efficiency
  • Disliked — Lack of a quality restaurant within one block

This was my second stay at the Ambra Palace. The rates are relatively sensible, rooms are nice, clean and not too small, staff is nice, breakfast is great. Internet access is complimentary.
The only minus is the location - it's not right smack in the center of town. But there's a Metro station right behind the hotel.
I travel to Rome quite often on business, and whenever possible I will try to stay at this hotel.
I just hope the great reviews I see here won't go to their head and make them raise their prices...

We visited Rome for three days in the middle of November 2006. We stayed at the Ambra Palace for 3 days and appreciated it during our stay. This Hotel is a short walk from Termini Station and the underground stop, so it is perfect location to reach the centre of Rome in a few minutes!! As indicated in Tripadvisor some reviews, the reception staff is extremely helpful and efficient and served you with a genuine smile. We relly appreciated the morning breakfast (included in the convenient room rate which we booked through the hotel website)with a large selection of pastries and cakes and the very gook Italian cappuccino! The superior room was very spacious, with elegant furniture, comfortable double bed, efficient heating systems and bathroom with whirlpool bathtub.
We would definitely sty here again!

I was astonished to see that the last three reviews were 5 star!

On the positive side - the hotel staff are friendly and helpful so deserve 5 stars. The bathrooms have been partially renovated and the internet is free!!

On the downside, it is in an absolutely terrible location for anyone thinking of wandering around after dark. Yes, it is not far from the Central Station but nowhere is in Rome (it is not a huge city) and like any Central Station area in any major city, it becomes an ominous place once it gets quieter.

Two nights running I had a taxi driver who could not find the hotel and got dumped a few hundred metres from the hotel. However, pleasant the majority of locals, this is not an area you want to be wandering around in the dark - run down, dirty, graffitti ridden.

The hotel itself is one of faded glory. The rooms have certainly seen better days and the bed and pillows were rock hard. The original standard room I had was pretty grim and the upgrade I received (at no cost and with no argument reflected very well on my view of the helpulness of the staff who were 5 star!) still very much had that faded glory feel to it.

If you genuinely want to stay near the Termini station then 250 metres away and much nearer is the SAS Radisson. No meaningful difference in price (unless you start using the mini bar or restaurant in which case get out your Gold Card!) and a more superior, efficient and pleasant modern 4 star hotel right next to the Central Station.

There are, of course, numerous better alternatives and locations within Rome for a traveller who wants any style of acomodation. My general comment is that if you don't need a 7 a.m. train then look at other areas within the city.
