we won this hotel at priceline n-y-o-p for 50 EUR/night Saturday to Monday (officila weekend rate is 62 w/o breakfast). I wanted to have a hotel away from city as we travelled by car and were more interested in the surroundings of Roma than the "tourist" places.

Yes you need a car, otherwise you are lost in a place without any shops, restaurants (except the overpricd hotel restaurant). you can park the car outside for free of charge (unguided) and to e.g Vaticano on the Aurelia street it takes 15min.

They offer a free shuttle but the last return is 22 (no dinner possible in city centre unless you take taxi - expensive 25 EUR!!!!) and you can't reserve (first come first serve). Later would be a reason why I won't recommend this hotel to tourist arriving by plane or train!!!

However the rooms feature international 4* standards, which makes me to vote 4 of 5 points = "very good" because usually Italian 4* has nothing to do with the US-Chain standards.

Pool and towels are free of charge (also very seldom in Italy!!) - a big plus in summer!!

They offered us a free breakfast as I'm member of the Melia customer program - however it would have been what they call "continental"= espresso/cappuccino + cornetto and the paid one for the second person would be 7,5 EUR (Italian price for this offer in a normal bar: 1,5-2 max). At least they offer a selection as the full american breakfast would have been 25 EUR or so....

We went for dinner to Bracciano (a lake ca. 30min north) "Trattoria da Regina" is a local favourite with simple dishes and price like in lire times (Full menu for 2 incl. drinks 28 - 30 EUR!!!)

I can recommend this hotel but remember the isolation and the need of a car!!

Also for 50 EUR/Night you get in similar locaton (maybe outside the G.R.) 4* hotels with breakfast. Normal price for weekdays is 120 EUR up, which I think it's too much for the area (low value)

The hotel itself was a standard 4 star North American hotel. Great price for the hotel quality. Very clean, air conditioning, North American style bathroom. The staff were helpful and friendly. Its a short taxi ride from the airport but far from the sites. It took about 30 minutes (depending on traffic) to get to the Vatican City area wtih the hotel shuttle. Once you were there it was very easy to get around. Catching a taxi at night is inconvenient if you miss the shuttle cause you need to ask someone with a landline to call a taxi for you. We encountered no problems with the shuttle, but people were left behind because of full buses at the peak times of day.

Stayed here for four nights in June. Knew the hotel was in the outskirts of Rome but the convenience of the shuttle bus sold it to us. But what a huge mistake. Before we came here we spent three nights in a B&B in the middle of Rome ( Il Covo ) and thoroughly enjoyed the location and experience. When at the Melia though you could be anywhere, all sense of location is lost. Deluxe room was large and comfy but looked quite dated with some very dodgey electrical sockets, pool was ok and most of the staff were very pleasant. But..............
Food.......... Paid 70 euros for easily the worst meal that we had in Rome. Eat elsewhere or bring something back with you
Breakfast.....Jam excellent, rest of it mediocre. The bacon and sausage were very poor quality and the colour of the eggs need to be seen to be believed. Quantity there but quality poor
Shuttle bus.........If you are planning to use this from the hotel you must get ther twenty minutes early or you may not get a seat. Returning from Rome in the evening it does not matter what time you get there because the driver just opens both sets of doors and it turns into a mad free for all. We queued for thirty minutes and got left behind along with many others. Make sure you have enough money for a taxi otherwise it will be a long walk.(The queue at reception is usually not people checking in but people complaining about the bus)
Drink........Bring your beers back with you...8 euros for a small beer and 11.50 euros for a vodka and tonic, even at the pool bar. Don't plan a stag do here!
Internet........10 euros for 45 minutes
Car parking..........Did not use but 16 euros a night
As you can see you may get a good rate to stay here but once you are here there is absolutey nothing nearby hence the high prices I suppose.
To sum up, as an overnight stop this might be ok, but if you are planning to use as a base for exploring Rome keep well away, book this place at your peril. Find a hotel or B&B near the sights, you will have a much better time

I snagged a very cheap rate (less than 100USD/night), but I would still think twice before staying again. The hotel had difficulty understanding my fluent English and Spanish (ironic for a Spanish hotel chain). Do NOT eat in their "breakfast room" unless it is included in your rate. I was gouged $50 Euros for two "American breakfasts," which amounted to nothing more than coffee, juice, disgusting eggs, and chopped up hotdogs. Restaurant/bar food/room service was mediocre yet laughably overpriced. But, the grounds and rooms were immaculate: we appreciated the little niceties like surround sound in the bathroom, motion sensor lights in the halls, etc. Also, the shuttle bus to Ottaviano Metro station is a great plus. Do arrive early, though, or you may find yourself waiting another two hours for the next one. (TIP: Leave the Ottaviano Metro area ASAP. Shady area with terrible food.)

My wife and I stayed at the Melia Roma Aurelia Antica as part of a Trafalgar tour (Italian Holiday). The hotel while nice and clean was far away from Rome proper yet served our needs nicely as a jumping off point. The room was clean and well furnished – shower curtain/door was awkward which resulted in water all over the floor. Our only meals at the hotel was the breakfast buffet which was plentiful and acceptable.
