Our group of 10 flew in a day before our cruise to get a chance to tour Rome. At 9 in the morning the hotel had our rooms ready so we could freshen up before heading into the city.

We took the shuttle provided by the hotel into the city. No complaints at all. This saved us so much hassle and expense.

After a long day of touring, we were so thankful to come "home" to clean rooms with very deep bathtubs. Great for warming up after a chilly day and soaking our sore feet. We had a decent, although pricey, dinner from the bar near the lobby.

In the morning we enjoyed the best breakfast of our entire trip. In addition to eggs, potatoes, and various meats they offered fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, cereals and several types of coffees, juices and champagne.

I'd love to go back and stay there for a few days.

  • Liked — It was clean, quiet and bathrooms were nice. Breakfast was amazing!
  • Disliked — Location. Too bad it wasn't a little closer to the city.

Make sure you want to stay here before you book. This hotel is in the middle of an industrial state far and isolated from the center, despite not being far from Rome downtown. It is alright for package tour travellers being taken around in groups, business travellers wanting to stay in this particular areas or airline crews too tired to care. There is no public transportation nearby to or from downtown, only the hotel bus which can be full and does not run at night.
Advertising as being in a park is only a half truth, you can´t go jogging around unless you want to risk your life in roads with barely any sidewalks, full of trash and prostitutes. They do have a little gym where you can line up for your turn to use the one and only treadmill.
On the other hand, the hotel itself is nice, better than the average Melia, and the staff really go out of their way to help customers. The restaurant is also good.

The hotel is okay but for the location. I should say it is in the boonies. There is a hotel shuttle which runs from a metro station(OITAVIANO), a 30 minute ride. But there is only one bus. So if you miss the 8:30p trip, you will have to wait on the road side till the 9:45p. I wish the frequency could be increased.

Anyways, we had issues from the moment we got down at the Rome terminal train station. We called the hotel to find out the easiest way. We were told to take a cab all the way. We knew it would cost us 40 - 50 Euros. When we asked about Metro, we were asked to get down at a different station (CORNELLA). We were never told about the shuttle stop at Oitaviano.

The second issue was the room AC. For some reason, the staff decided to turn off the AC during nights. We were told to open the window doors or use the fan. The Fans did not work either. So we kept the window open since it was a warm night.

The third issue was with the breakfast. When we went to the breakfast room, the lady asked us to go down to another room. When we went to the other room the lady kept asking us about Gulliver travels. I have no idea why. We kept saying NO. We were on our own. So after 10 minutes of talk, we were asked to go back upstairs to the big American breakfast room. Again after 5 minutes talk, they let us in. My wife was really [-] of with this. So we were just waiting for about 20 minutes. I still did not know why the lady kept asking about Gulliver travels.

When you make your reservation, make sure you have the breakfast and that there is not confusion.

Excellent hotel with great rooms and absolutely fantastic breakfast so book that , hotel has everything you'd expect from a 4* hotel. What's nice is that you can take hotel free bus into heart of rome (stop right next to a metro station) but then come back to peace and tranquility of hotel and have a swim etc. But no other thngs around hotel so you do have to stay in it once your back (free bus last journey is 11pm ish) and food there is very expensive for evening meal even in pool snack bar. Book though lastminute.com we did - I'm sure they'll have room, we booked middle of august for that night and next 3!! and saved a small fortune - it was cheaper than the hostels we'd been staying in during our italian trip!!

  • Liked — free bus into rome centre, pool, breakfast

We stayed in Rome for three nights. We loved the city and thought our hotel was great as well.

The Melia is an incredible four star hotel. The basic rooms are immaculately clean and very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was the best that we have had in Europe - it had everything. We found this hotel for only $150Canadian/night on Expedia. It was an amazing deal

The biggest draw back is the location. It was pretty far from the centre of Rome. We tried to get to the hotel on public transit and it was almost impossible. I would HIGHLY recommend taking a cab from the two airports to the hotel. It will be expensive but way way way way way less stressful. There is a shuttle bus every hour from the centre of Rome to the hotel - this was really nice to go to and from everyday.

  • Liked — The buffet breakfast and luxurious rooms
