Hats off to this hotel. 4 Minutes walk to the Collosseum, very clean, helpful staff. The pool is georgeous and the rooftop patio is also very nice as it overlooks the Collosseum. The room was clean and very well presented. There was air conditioning, tv, patio, bar, etc. Would reccommend this hotel to anyone and will stay there again next time we visit rome.

This hotel is unbelievable bad. I stayed here for 4 nights in June/2009 (10/06 to 14/06) and I had one of the worst experiences of my life. I am a member of the A-Club (Mercure loyalty program) and that was the reason why I had chosen this one for my stay in Rome, but in no way this hotel is up to the Mercure standard. During my arrival I was offered a non-smoking room with 2 beds (my booking was for a smoking room with a double bed), after some conversations the only helpful person during my whole stay (Alessandro), offered me a second room, which was very small (room 111). To cur a long story short:

a) The bathroom had to be blocked as the shower box would become a swimming pool;

b) Don’t even think about in eating at the hotel, the portions are really small and the prices are really expensive. A baby would be left starving after eating one of them! When I complained to the staff she was really rude. They focus on the problem not on the solution.

c) They serve food in plastic plates and drinks in plastic glasses (Is this the standard for 4 star hotel??? I don’t think so)

d) The breakfast is expensive and all the 4 days lacked food. In one day half of the people in there were waiting for basic stuff, like bread and cheese.

e) Someone placed a “Do Not disturb” in my door and as a result the room was not clean. When I rang reception by the end of the day, I was informed that nothing could be done; that they do not had maids at 7PM. Again 4 stars hotel?????? God help us!

Anyway, stay away from this Hostel, unless you want to have your holidays fulfilled with problems. Find a better place and enjoy Rome.

I won this hotel through Priceline at the terrific price of $118/night - a great deal considering Priceline wins guarantee double rooms, which were going at the regular rate closer to $300 on every other website. We got to the hotel much earlier than the 3pm check in time, but the staff graciously held our bags while we toured around the city and gave us an upgrade when we returned. The "upgrade," which gave us a sliver view of the Colosseum if you strained your eyes from the tiny window, was into a smoking room, which I didn't like. But when I walked in, the room surprisingly did not smell like smoke at all, so I was pleased with the results.

This was the first European hotel where I thought the star category matched the US standard - I've been in several European hotels where their 4 or 5 star category is equivalent to a Holiday Inn or Motel 6 in the US. This room was cramped, but modern enough with all the right amenities, which lined up with their 3 star category rating on Priceline. I'd say it was equivalent to a Courtyard by Marriott standard in the US. It was comfortable and clean. The only complaint I have of the room is the ridiculously small and awkward shower - I am a small girl (5'4", 115 lbs) and felt like I took up the entire shower. My husband (who is substantially larger) said it felt like showering in a coffin. There was virtually no way for me to start up the shower without getting water all over the place or for me to be inside and be sprayed with freezing (or burning) water.

Twice on our three day stay the elevators stopped working, forcing customers to walk up the stairs to get to their rooms. We were on the 4th floor, so luckily only had a few flights to walk....not sure how the poor souls on higher floors did it, especially if they had luggage! The hotel did not issue out any apologies or assistance for the problem.

The hotel is a comfortable five minute walk to the Colosseum and Metro station. I wouldn't pay regular rack rates for the room, but if I snagged another deal like the one I had, I wouldn't mind staying here again.

Stayed there 2 nights paying really low fare, since I've booked from Accorhotels website and there was a "last minute promotion", less than 150 euros for the two nights.
The staff was a bit rude when we've arrived, as they didn't find my reservation and said that "the system shows me I'm fully booked". But then, the man reloaded his system and there was my reservation.
I didn't pay for the breakfast but I wouldn't recommend it, as long as there're a of choices just crossing the street and walking a little (it seems that there's a college about 300m crossing the street and there're a lot of cafeterias, maybe for the students).
The location is amazing, from the roof you can take nice pictures of the Coliseum, that is just a few steps from the hotel, the "coliseo metro" station as well. About the roof, all complainings about no staff in the roof bar are true. I've been in the roof the two days I've stayed there and I've only seen a guy cleaning the pool.
The room and the bathroom are a little old, needing refubishment, but OK for the price I've payed.
The regular fare is unreal, more than 150 euros per night, and if you don't get a promotion as I got, don't stay there.

I was concerned after reading some of the reviews about this hotel but was relieved and wonder why the bad review after our amazing experience in Rome with this hotel. We did booked a superior double room (and it's a proper double bed which overlooks the colosseum). Our room wasn't big but it was big enough for us (typical European sized hotel) with decent amenities - good toiletries, plenty of towels, cups, LCD tv, hangers, safe box, long mirror and a decent bed with additional pillows. Oh yes - air-conditioning too! We stayed in room 306 and booked through special rates over internet which made it extremely good value for money considering the expanse of hotels in Rome. It's 5 mins walk to the Colosseo metro and it's nice to see the Colosseum in day/evening/night (ok we got a bit obssessed). If not there are bus stops right across the hotel which takes into town directly or at least to Piazza de Venezia which linked to the rest of the place. The room was very quiet considering the main road was outside. There was also the added bonus of a Trattoria/Pizzeria called Luzzi which is across the hotel recommended if you want a proper Italian joint to eat (rather than the semi-pretentious expensive places in centre of town) as a 1 litre of extremely good white wine sets back at €4!!!! The only downside is that this place is so good that waiting time is about 10-20 mins - more so on a Saturday night which is full of Romans on a night out. The hotel staff were very helpful and courteous. We wanted to extend half a day more as our flight was later on that night but was politely told that the hotel was full but we could use the shower facilities/swimming pool and garden terrace if we so wish and keep our luggage in. We loved this hotel and would definitely come back again.. this time perhaps with our swimming kit!!
