This hotel is unbelievable bad. I stayed here for 4 nights in June/2009 (10/06 to 14/06) and I had one of the worst experiences of my life. I am a member of the A-Club (Mercure loyalty program) and that was the reason why I had chosen this one for my stay in Rome, but in no way this hotel is up to the Mercure standard. During my arrival I was offered a non-smoking room with 2 beds (my booking was for a smoking room with a double bed), after some conversations the only helpful person during my whole stay (Alessandro), offered me a second room, which was very small (room 111). To cur a long story short:

a) The bathroom had to be blocked as the shower box would become a swimming pool;

b) Don’t even think about in eating at the hotel, the portions are really small and the prices are really expensive. A baby would be left starving after eating one of them! When I complained to the staff she was really rude. They focus on the problem not on the solution.

c) They serve food in plastic plates and drinks in plastic glasses (Is this the standard for 4 star hotel??? I don’t think so)

d) The breakfast is expensive and all the 4 days lacked food. In one day half of the people in there were waiting for basic stuff, like bread and cheese.

e) Someone placed a “Do Not disturb” in my door and as a result the room was not clean. When I rang reception by the end of the day, I was informed that nothing could be done; that they do not had maids at 7PM. Again 4 stars hotel?????? God help us!

Anyway, stay away from this Hostel, unless you want to have your holidays fulfilled with problems. Find a better place and enjoy Rome.

We stayed for four nights at this hotel. We were given a room with a view of the Colosseum, which I understand would normally cost extra. We booked directly through the Accor website and paid around £100 a night.

The room was quite big, at least for Europe. There was a slightly random pillar in one part of the room but it didn't really get in the way. The room was clean and there was plenty of storage as well as an in-room safe. The bathroom was small but clean and perfectly adequate. My one gripe is that the bed was two singles pushed together - and each was a bit saggy, leading to an uncomfortable ridge in the middle. I found no evidence of the shabbiness mentioned in other reviews, but perhaps our room was newly decorated.

The location cannot be beaten - we used the number 87 bus to get into the Centro Storico, which connected with various other buses. The Colosseum and Forums were only 5 minutes walk away. It's not to far to venture back into the centre of an evening for a meal.

We had the continental breakfast in the bar on a few occasions - juice, pastries and excellent coffee for 6 euros each, which I thought was good value. We also had drinks in the bar several times and found the staff very pleasant and the drinks good value. The rooftop terrace was delightful and a lovely place to relax and read a book after a day pounding the streets of Rome. I imagine when the pool is open it's even better - swimming with the sun going down over the Colosseum anyone?!

Other staff were similarly helpful, making restaurant reservations etc. There could be more leaflets etc available for tourists, but I think that most guests are probably business travellers.

Overall we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel for trips to Rome.

  • Liked — Location, value for money, that view from the roof terrace
  • Disliked — Saggy beds!

Stayed here for a week on business. Best thing about hotel was size of room and location. Room was on the shabby side.

I stayed in this hotel on business for two nights it is in a good location for exploring Rome which is a fantastic city. That is its one good point. I had the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in I could touch 3 walls at the same time. The bed was one step from the door and one step in to the bathroom which was tiny. I am not tall only 5 8 and the shower head was in my face. If you are tall you would have to go on your knees. The décor is very tired and drab I would imagine that it was last refurbished when it opened do not be fooled by the modern exterior. The room was very warm and there was no way of turning off the heating the air con as mentioned by others does not work. The only option is to open the window. The hotel is on a very busy road with a lot of trams going past. The door had signs that it had been broken into plus the it did not have a very strong lock or secondary devise to secure the door such as a chain I would not have given this hotel 4 stars. I paid 126 Euros so it is not good value for money. I have stayed in other hotels in Rome that have been better. I do get the feeling that as Rome is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations they do not try very hard. They know they will have a very high occupancy rate what ever they do or offer. I will look elsewhere when I come back to Rome.

I stayed just for one night in this hotel, thanks God! I was on a business trip and arrive late at night. They said there was, but there wasn't room service, as I had to go down to the bar, ask there for the menu (the choice was a slice of precooked pizza or a precooked sandwich), and go back to my room, wich was tiny, with a column in the middle, just in front of the TV. They hardly speak any other language than Italian, though most of the staff were nice. In fact I am so dissapointed because this is not even a one star hotel, and we paid for much more than that, actually they claim to be a four star hotel?!
