Stayed in Hotel 10th -14th May. While rooms were small this was a minor details. B/Fast was OK would agree with the coffee machines. What we found fantastic was we had two elderly ladies with us and 'walking' around rome was not practicle, the hotel organised our taxi on the first morning to the Vatican city, the taxi driver was very nice and gave us his card. The next day we asked the reception to contact the taxi co as we were keen to hire them for a tour - we got two hours in a mini bus for only 60.00 euros unbelievable value. We hired him again the next day for another tour - thanks Carlos for a great time.
The staff were very nice, would defo re book and would recommend.

Probably the friendliest people we met in Rome! Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Room a bit small but shower rediculously small - gap to get in no more than 20 inches! On a busy road, would have kept the window open for fresh air but too noisy even at night. Hotel was described as 500 metres from Termini station - more like a mile. Nearest metro Republicca which is about 15 mins walk. We paid for 'high speed internet' using the room keyboard and TV - don't bother, connection so slow we gave up. Very clean room, just a bit small, not a 4 star.

Before going, we knew this hotel was farther out that we had wanted, but let our relatives do the booking. There were issues with the booking process that the hotel told us to "work out between us". We were trying to reserve a room by each couple, but they charged our card with the whole amount. The rooms were on the small side, and even though they advertise airconditioning - it was not on. The option was to hear the loud traffic all night or bear the uncomfortable sleeping temperature in the room. There was not a coffee maker in our room (our traveling companions received one two days into the trip), but it was not a problem - because we were always up early to enjoy the breakfast downstairs. The breakfast presentation and personnel were very good. The front desk personnel were helpful most of the time -sometimes there was noone who spoke english, but understandable. The worst thing that happened - and really soured us on this hotel and its ethics was when our traveling companions returned from their cruise to stay another night (we had already left for home a week earlier), and they were told by the front desk that we had stolen their coffee pot from the room!!! This is unexcusable, and ridiculous... why would anyone from the states want their plastic coffee pot with the foreign adapter!!!! Not to mention the terrible feeling of being accused of such a thing. What a terrible taste this left for us - having been labeled as a "thieves!" We would never take anything that was not ours, and resent very much the distasteful way this happened. Perhaps the hotel would be well-served to check their own employees, or have a better system of accounting when each guest checks out. If anyone should choose to stay at this hotel, I would make sure that you actually have a coffeemaker - or anything else that was supposed to be included in your room, so that it is not left up to the hotel staff to accuse you! Aside from this, which was apparently very hurtful - we loved Rome. I have been there numerous times, and was anxious to show my husband and relatives all that it has to offer. Just be warned, if you stay at the Gambrinus. I would suggest staying near to the heart of the old city, so that you can walk to most of the attractions. The high speed internet, located near the breakfast room, was down most of the time we were there. The restaurant was not open on two of the nights we tried to dine there.

The hotel is 10 minutes brisk walk from just about any major landmark, the staff is extremely friendly, the management must be proud of their team. Clean, welcoming and bright, it only has two failings, one is the size of the bathroom, which is much too small and the other is the breakfast: coffee machine makes excellent espresso, but no fruits and vegetables at all, no vegetarian items, I felt sorry for two Asian ladies, that were looking hungry over the choice. We had a bottle of wine with compliments as a welcome and I liked the special offer of 25 EUR per night that includes wi-fi internet and all TV channels. Not that someone would visit Rome and will stay in their room to take advantage of it. There is a free internet on a small workstation right down to the bar, but only works 11 am to 11 pm. The windows isolate the street noise perfectly. Bottom line is, I will visit it again, if I am on a tight budget. Italy is beautiful, but doesn't come cheap.

I have just come back from a stay at the Hotel Gambrinus and would stress 'this is not a 4 star hotel' as it claims. There is a certificate above the reception given to them by expedia dated 2005 but they either stayed in an exclusive part of the hotel or it has gone down hill rapidly in the last 4 years. The hotel is definitely not in a highly privileged position in the historic center of Rome as claimed on their website It is approximately 40 mins walk from anything of interest, so expect to pay alot of money on taxis, metro or be prepared to walk, walk, walk. The overall look of the hotel when you enter is bright, clean and spacious but when we went to our room it was small, dull and badly lit. I would have opened the curtains to brighten the room but there was someone laying on their bed in a room opposite because all the rooms faced each other in a court yard fashion. When entering the bathroom it was so small you had to close the door which would hit the toilet to get into the shower. The shower doors were actually hanging off and when my partner tried to pull it closed it came off in her hand. When successfully in the shower you had to run around to actually get wet because the water pressure was so poor. The bed was ok but we had two pillows between us which were the thickness of pitta bread so a very uncomfortable nights sleep. There was a bottle of complementary wine which I thought was a really nice gesture but it tasted of vinegar. Breakfast was the usually european buffet but this was very limited. There was a choice of soggy scrambled egg, greasy bacon or tinned fruit. There was not fresh produce at all. The only real benefit I would say about staying in this hotel is the Italian restaurant opposite which is excellent and I had the best pizza of my life in there. I only stayed two nights and payed 150 Euros which I don’t think is very expensive, but all I will say is "this is not a 4 Star hotel, 3 Star maximum".
