“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

A charming hotel in an excellent location. Thank goodness we had a driver arranged through the hotel as there are no signs on the building indicating the Hotel De Monti. It only appears on the intercom box. We walked to the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum the first night to get our bearings. The young man at the desk was very helpful and gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner that night. He even helped us up with our luggage which was great as we were coming off a 26 day cruise and had three heavy bags. We were room 32 which is the first room and faces the street. Had a wonderful view of the church down the street. The only complaint we would have is that because we were close to the door we could hear everytime other guests came and went. Some of them just let the door slam. Breakfast was adequate and always delivered to the room on time by a very pleasant young lady. Got a great tip as to where to buy our tickets for the Colosseum (get them at the Forum gate) but didn't realize you could only enter each site once. We walked through the Forum to get our undergound tickets at the Colosseum so only spent about 20 minutes there. Buy your tickets for the underground Colosseum tour BEFORE you go in (after you bypass the massive lineup but before you scan your ticket). When we returned three hours later for our tour and our ticket wouldn't scan a nice lady let us in anyway. There are a couple of food stores close to the hotel as well as restaurants and we felt comfortable walking in the neighbourhood late in the evening.

Dear, thank you very much for posting this review and talking about us, very kind of you!

Thanks mostly for reminding that we have no sign outside our building and, as we always say, we suggest everyone to go on our website in order to read exactly how to reach us! Also, we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift.

It has been a pleasure to have suggested you how to skip the line at the Colosseo, this and more, much more, for our guests!

Looking forward to meeting you again, hopefully for more time!

We were met promptly at the airport by the collection service who pointed out a few sights on the way to the hotel. The room (34) was quite big and very clean at the side away from the road so less traffic noise. The hotel is very close to the Colosseum and the Roma Termini which are both around 10-15 minutes walk away.

Mauro was very friendly and took the time to tell us where to go and not to go, some great food recommendations and even better some amazing tips for the main attractions to save hours in queue time. He spoke to us every day asking where we had been etc.

Breakfast is delivered every morning to your room on a tray at your selected time. It was a great little selection of biscotti, croissant, parma ham and cheeses. It was good to set us up for the day.

Only downsides were that our toilet/bathroom smelt very badly. So we had to keep the door shut and the window open the entire time. Also the walls were very thin so we were woken up before 7am each morning, by other guests, cleaning and the breakfasts being made. If you wake early it would not be a problem. We had to sleep with ear plugs in to try block out some of the noise. We didn't sleep that well.

Other than that we had a good trip and this was the perfect base to explore Rome from. We walked everywhere except we got the Metro to the Vatican. We thought the Metro was safe and easy to use. It was also very quiet mid week.

There were a good selection of shops and restuarants surrouding the hotel. We would definately recommend Traverna De Monti.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the kitchen and towards the back of the hotel to avoid lots of noise. If...

Hi there! Thank you very much for sharing your experience here!

Our building is considered as monument, as it was built in the 15th Century and has no lift. All the centre of Rome is noisy and all our rooms have double glassed windows; unfortunately, we are not able to control the noises from the other guests!!!!

What we consider our strenght, is the suggestions we could provide to our guests through a map, explaining everything has to be known of the Eternal City, in order to enjoy Rome at its best!

Thanks again and see you the next time!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in February and the hotel and staff made our stay so enjoyable. Mauro on reception is a legend, telling us where to go and what to see, drawing on the map for us. He helped us to have the most fantastic stay in Rome imaginable.

Breakfast is gorgeous and so well presented. You tick what you want and what time you want it at and if you have a very early start like we did one day they will bring it to your room extra early, coming in to start their shift earlier than intended. So sweet of them.

Rooms are spacious and very clean, shower was fab and lovely hot water at all times. TV in the room, mostly French channels but one English film channel that was randomly showing Gladiator the day we had gone to the Coliseum! Bed very comfy with plenty of pillows and the windows open up so lots of fresh air comes through the airy room.

I will 100% be staying in this hotel again if I am ever lucky enough to return to Rome.

I would recommend this hotel for couples and families but not for the elderly or those who have difficulty walking as there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to the hotel itself and after a long day walking the streets of Rome it is a bit tough, but worth it! VERY central, 5 min walk to the Coliseum and some fantastic local bars and restaurants.

Thank you to Hotel De Monti for making our trip to Rome what it was.

Hello and thank you very much for this review!!!

What else could we say?! You did not leave anything to say to reply you!!! You mentioned all the breakfast options (we add the all the products are coming from the region of Rome and that time for the breakfast is from 07.30 to 10, always brought in room).

Regarding the City: we do not suggest the Hotel to the persons that think to know Rome more than us and we are always glad to explain all our guests how to really appreciate our City!

See you soon!

We were 3 people staying in two rooms of the Hotel de Monti for one night ( 5th May 2013) on our way to Civitavecchia for a cruise. The driver of Bob's Limo found the place without any problem. The manager was a very helpful young man (rugby player) who helped us with our luggage (one a 26 kg pink monster) to the third floor. He was also a great source of information as far as restaurants and nearby tourist sites such as the Trevi fountains and the Colosseum. A quick summary: the rooms are the cleanest we have ever-I repeat- ever stayed in, the airconditioning was effective and silent, the bathroom modern with a good supply of hot water and a hair dryer, the beds were comfortable and the linen new and clean. There was no traffic noise. Breakfast was served to the rooms and was the classic european variety of bread, cold meats, butter, jam, coffee and orange juice, all included in the price of the room. We were next to a nice restaurant and across the street we found two food shops, a classy wine store and a chemist on the opposite corner. There were many more restaurants nearby. All in all the kind of experience making it compulsory for us to return to Hotel de Monti next year.(And do not judge the Hotel de Monti by the front door or the first two floors!).

Thanks for such a wonderful review! We are feeling do flattered!!!

Of course we are so thankfull for all you have written, reviews like these make us fell more proud and happy than we usually are doing this job, that we consider a real pleasure more than a work.

That is why our focus is to let people enjoy all what means being Roman, including Roman food, how WE visit the City, which is the reason why we kindly "force" our guests to stop in the reception for at least 5 minutes, to talk about Rome with a map.

Though, let us remind everyone that we still are a 2 stars Hotel, at the third floor of an ancient building with no lift. If someone is not coming with a driver, on our website there are all the directions usefull to reach us from the airports or the train station.

We wish you all the best and we are already looking forward to meeting you again!!!

We loved staying at this hotel. The front desk man and cleaning lady were so nice. They gave us great close places to eat and info for what we wanted to do. They bring you your choice of breakfast to your room at the time you request. The hotel is within walking distance to most things(super close to the colosseum) The Vatican is a far walk but doable. The only downside (but wasn't really one for us) there are no elevators and are on the 3rd floor (4th floor by USA standards). Also it was kind of hard to find. There is no sign. Once you get to the address there is just a button that said hotel de monti for you to ring. While we were there the door next to the door you need for the hotel said B&B hotel

Hello and thank you very much for all the information you have written in this review!

We are at the third floor with no elevator and not having a sign outside, our website has all the directions about how to reach us.

From the Hotel, all the major sites are within an area of 30-40 minutes walking, at the further and we are always at your complete disposal, in order to explain you how to organize your time here in Rome!

To the next Roman time!

This is a great find. Once you get over the lack of signage outside and the 58 steep steps you have to climb up, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The stairway is old and you kind of start to worry as you climb but as you enter the hotel entrance, you come into clean, new floors and a friendly face. The lights in the hall are kind of eerie because they are on motion detection but the rooms and bathrooms are clean and look new. It is a short ten minute walk to the major train and bus station, minutes away from restaurants and ten minutes from the Coloseum and Roman Forum. Take a right out of the door, head past four streets and at the fourth, take a left and there is the looming Coloseum at the end. All in all, a great fine and we were very happy with our stay. We would recommend to all.

Hello guys and thank you very much for posting such a good review!

Thanks for reminding everyone we are the the third floor of a very ancient building not provided with a lift and that, not having a sign outside, it is better to know where we exactly are, on our website.

What we are very proud of, is how we can let the people enjoy Rome through our tips and advises we give everyone once in here. We always give a map of the City, explaining the best ways to visit Rome, including the best places to eat.

From the Hotel then, maximum 30-40 minutes walking and you could reach the most important highlights of the Eternal City.

We look forward to meeting you again!

This is a very small hotel in a residential neighbourhood, within walking distance of Terminii Station and most of the sights of Rome. The furthest away was the Vatican, which still only took 40 minutes to walk. The hotel has around a dozen rooms on the 3rd floor of the building (there is no lift). There is a small reception desk only, no restaurant, bar or lounge, and breakfast is brought to your room at a time of your choosing. But it was perfectly adequate for a city break, as we were out most of the time. More importantly, the room was spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfast excellent. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Mauro, the manager, made sure we had all the information we needed to make the most of our stay, and recommended some good local restaurants.
I would certainly recommend the Hotel De Monti to anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming base from which to explore Rome.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience here!!!

Being the smallest 2 stars Hotel in Rome (only 7 rooms), our focus is to let our guests discovering Rome at its best, with all the suggestions we can give through the map of the City.

If anyone reading is looking for the best room ever, full of luxury facilities, we are not the best choise. We strongly think that Rome was built to be discovered and not to lose time in a room and who better than you, can help us saying that?!

Thanks for reminding as well that we have no elevator in our building and that our rooms are at the third floor of an ancient building.

Once back in Rome, do not hesitate to contact us again!
