“Piecefull and romantic place in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

So nice room with toilet and amenties, ok positioned near the Vatikan walls, easy to reached by public transport. Its only bad marked in front of the main entrance, but, finally o.k. when we found the place. Owners are so nice people, thanks to everyone once again, we were so happy in Rome, and with our stay in Insieme. Breakfast was good organized in caffe shop near the B&B, but it was the same-only coffe with croasant.
But we did not mind, bcs we eat in restaurants...

There are some overwhelmingly positive reviews out there (here and other booking sites) I need to temper. But let's start with the positives.

Pros: Clean, nice sized rooms. Nice, comfy bed with nice linens. Good wifi in rooms. A/C is strong enough. You get a feeling that they really take care of this property. I see cleaners every morning doing a very thorough job. They clean your room each day. TV has a million channels (but none in English). The place is accessible by bus, metro, and suburban train (which will take you to the main airport with one station change)

Cons:

1. The truth about being "close" to the metro is that it's not close. If you arrive by metro, you will have to walk uphill for about 10 minutes to get to the apartment. It's also an ugly walk along a highway full of speeding cars. The sidewalk is about 2 feet wide and there are no guardrails protecting you at certain points. I highly do not recommend this walk for people: a) with kids, b) who are obese, or c) who have huge luggage with them. You will not enjoy it and you will likely get lost the first time you arrive. The walk down to the metro is quicker (about 6 minutes) as it is all downhill. The metro is convenient but the bus stop in front of the apartment is better. Number 46 bus takes you into the center of town and drops you off right at the doorstep of the apartment on your return. You're better off taking this bus than the metro but it's not as frequent as the metro.

2. It's not a real Bed and Breakfast. There is no breakfast in the apartment. The "breakfast" is comprised of a cappuccino and pastry redeemed at two cafes. The owner gives you these coupon cards to give to the cafes. There's two cafes - one right next door which isn't manned by very friendly people. The second cafe is a 5 minute walk AWAY from the metro on Anastasio II street. Much better vibe and better selection of pastries, but if you go there, and plan to take the metro after breakfast, you're walking twice the distance to get there. It's about a kilometre in total and will take you 15 minutes to get to the metro.

Overall, really enjoyed the "breakfast" though I can see why other people may expect more.

3.The owner is never around. Despite telling her the time of our arrival, when we arrived on time, there was no one to open the gate for us. The owners listed their phone number next to the buzzer so you can call them - which only works if you have a phone. I got a customer at the coffee bar next door to lend me their phone. The bar itself will not lend it to you. The owner arrived 20 minutes after. This seems to be a problem for a lot of guests. So be prepared. The owner was very sweet and very nice though, but the place just isn't "staffed". So if you're new to Rome and need hand holding or advice, this may not the place for you. There is a lady who is around in the mornings who is either the owner's daughter or one of the cleaners who always asks if you need anything so maybe she is the go-to person for advice on stuff. Just don't expect staff to be around to answer questions when you come home at night.

4. Some people have complained about noise at night. We didn't find it to be a problem, but sometimes the place shudders when a train(?) goes by.

5. The shower cubicle in the bathroom is SMALL. I mean it is probably 2 feet by 2 feet. If you are obese, you simply won't be able to shower. If you have kids that you need to bathe, good luck to you. On the plus side, the shower is hot with great pressure. If you're a normal sized person, the shower size won't be a huge deal to you.

6. There are no restaurants around the B&B. There's some further on Anastasio but it's a bit of a walk away. So it's not like you can open the door and stumble onto something to eat.

7. Only one room has a fridge.

So with all these issues, why am I giving this a "VERY GOOD" rating? Because it is a nice place to return home to. Because we didn't mind walking a bit for breakfast or to the metro. Because it's a great price and if you wanted to stay in the centre of town for the same price, you would be staying in some dodgy one star hotel near the Termini train station. Because it's not our first time in Rome and we were here for a week. And most importantly, we're not obese and we don't have kids.

If this is your first time in Rome, I think you should stay closer to the centre. It's not a HUGE pain to get to the B&B from town, but it COULD be if you only have a few days to spend in Rome (or it's your honeymoon) and you don't want to waste a lot of time on transport.

In summary - great for able bodied, childless, second timers in Rome, and/or if you have access to a car.

We booked the triple room for 2 nights and found that while it was quite small, it was very clean, modern and well appointed. This hotel is actually a few rooms inside a private, high quality apartment block, but don't let that put you off. It is 5 mins walk to the metro and 20 mins walk to The Vatican,so is a good location for the price. It was difficult to find as the road is split into several sections and our sat nav took us miles away so I would suggest to get directions from the owner. We only met the owner when we arrived, this is not a manned desk hotel. She seemed very nice and helpful but we struggled to communicate as she spoke very little english and we even less italian. Breakfast consisted of a voucher for a coffee and a croissant in a local cafe which wasn't great but again, ok for the price. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Roma Insiemel to anybody who, like us, wants a good, clean place to stay, close to the metro for a good price.

Our stay at Roma Insieme was exactly as advertised here by the other reviewers (thank you tripadvisor community!) so there were no surprises. We contacted the proprietors to let them know when we would be arriving and Claudia was here to meet us at 10am on a Sunday. The room was furnished in a basic but comfortable way (flat screen TV, A/C, wifi). Everything was spotless; we were there for a week and someone came in everyday to clean and make the beds. And I was amazed at how comfortable the beds were--they look bare bones but I slept like a rock! Private baths with very cozy shower but considering many B&Bs have communal bathrooms, I can't complain. Breakfast is a choice of two locations, go for Bar Papagallo on Via Anastasio II (very nice atmosphere and the staff are SO nice there--I felt like a regular after just a few days!). If you have extra time to explore there is another location of Papagallo on Via Gregorio VII where you can enjoy a very nice afternoon cocktail with a view of the dome of St. Peter's--nice!!! Claudia (owner?) was so kind to us and went out of her way to bring us an electric tea kettle (we never used it) and even gave us a beautiful little ceramic egg for our 5-year old on Saturday as we were leaving early on Easter morning. Location is perfect, the #46 bus will take you to many sites and stops right outside the gate and the Metro line A as someone mentioned was very convenient as well. Be warned that the front desk is not usually manned so it really is not for someone who is going to require a lot of assistance as you might expect from a hotel.

We had booked the triple appartment in B&B Roma Insieme for 1 night in January 2012. On our way to the B&B we got lost and made a call by informing about our late arrival. However receptionist left 30 min before we arrived- thus leaving a family with a kid on the street before the closed door!

So we were not able to stay at this B&B but they collected money, full price from my bank card and did not respond to my later e-mail with a request to return the money.

I have travelled all over the World but never experienced something like this. It's a scandal!
