Proximity to the Termini Station is the only positive. The locality is dirty/seedy, you are constantly harassed by beggars and there seem to be many poor immigrants of African origin wandering around. I don't think this is an area you would want to wander round after dark.
No way is this hotel 4 star - a little over 2 star at best. Whilst the rooms were quite clean they were somewhat utilitarian, the bed was hard, our room looked out onto a central well with washing lines from tenements opposite strung across the void.......unsightly and no privacy - you couldn't have your windows/curtains open because you were so closely overlooked. Breakfast was a basic cold buffet. No room service and little information given about any other services available. Rooms on the front would be no better because of traffic noise & fumes.
The toilet in our bathroom broke down 5 times during our 5 day stay - same problem each time - it wouldn't flush and would malfunction again within a few hours of the "engineer" fixing it. A few times we had to resort to sluicing the toilet overnight with waste bin filled with water from the shower! We never received any expression of regret from the uncaring hotel management or indeed the offer of a move to another room.
Never stay there again and would advise others to steer clear of this one.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for some time.

I stayed at this hotel last September (2008) I wanted a hotel near the station so I could make a quick exit for the express train for the airport first thing in the morning. This is not a great hotel, in-fact it is a very poor one.
The only good thing is that it is close to the platforms for the airport train and it had good aircon and good sound proofing.
The bed was hard and uncomfortable a small shower that hadn’t been cleaned properly and had several old bars of soap in the soap dish covered in black hairs. It had high speed internet access, but there were no spare plucks sockets to plug in your laptop, without having to unplug something else.
This is not a good place to stay and there looked like there were better hotels close by, would I stay there again, NO.

Stayed in this hotel in 2006 for 4 nights with my boyfriend. This hotel is very centrally located, is across the road from the main metro station where the 2 main lines meet so no nead to use Taxi's. It's clean, and finished to a high standard. Staff are very helpfull and speak English. Reasonably priced too. The room was huge with a safe, mini bar, tea/coffee facilities, iron & ironing board/ power shower (which was excellent), room cleaned every morning. Breakfast was included which was great not to have to look for somewhere to eat first thing in the morning.

Lovely restaurants nearby and there is a market not to far from it either. Night life wouldn't be great in that area but a couple of streets away there is 2 nighclubs and plenty of café bars.

Really enjoyed my stay and have gone back to Rome since. Rome is a lovely romantic city but I would recommend being close to the metro line as most of the tourist attractions are on those routes.

  • Liked — The room was huge. Hotel centrally located
  • Disliked — No bar!

For our first trip to Rome the Gioberti Hotel was great. We took the train from the airport to the Termini and the hotel was less than a block away!

Coming from small town Ontario, I at first thought the hotel area to be a bit seedy. But as my trip went on we found it perfectly safe and walked around at night with no issues. We were also able to walk to all attractions except the Vatican and the metro is super easy to use.

We walked all day and ran from tour to tour so all you need in Rome is a clean place to sleep. This hotel has a lobby and good breakfast room. Where you can grab cereal, yogurt, bread, jam, meat, cheese, juice and very STRONG coffee for no cost. There are fresh towels everyday and the rooms are a good size for a European hotel.

The front desk staff is great and booked us a car to the airport for an early flight.

When it comes to Rome this hotel delivers everything you need!

Note: And i warn if its your first trip to Rome the traffic is crazy...look both ways is an understatment :) And renting a scooter is suicide.

  • Liked — The location was great for the price!
  • Disliked — The hair dryer was a vacuum hose?

My wife and I had a very nice 3 night stay at Hotel Gioberti from July 4th through the 7th. The hotel is conveniently located within a stone’s throw of the Rome’s Termini Station, which was great for cheaply getting two and from the airport (we took the express train whcih cost 8 Euro each i think) and for easy access to all the sites of Rome. The location is also nice because it’s located very close to all the car rental companies. We were renting a car for 5 days in Tuscany. It was very convenient for picking it up. The Staff at the front desk spoke English well (which was nice). They were friendly and were helpful with things like directions and with making suggestions about local trattorias. The room and shower were clean and very adequate, especially for European hotels. Unlike the previous person's air conditioner experience, ours worked great the room was very cool. I would definitely suggest this place to anyone looking for a good value on a Rome hotel.
