What an ironic evening! We had done our research on Tripadvisor, but all our favourite picks for today where fully booked. And since my phone battery was almost empty, we decided to choose a restaurant the old way; by looking around. We didn't find anyone we liked, and eventually the hunger got the best of us, so we were tempted to try this restaurant since it had an interesting menu and the atmosphere seemed nice. (Ironically enough we didn't check Tripadvisor were this restaurant is rated among the worst in Rome.) The waiter was the hardselling type. When my wife ordered pizza, he couldn't resist showing his disappointment. I was stupid enough to ask for his recommendation and he recommended pork from Florence, which was today's special. I checked the menu, and it was priced at 7 Euros (100 grams). We also orderd a bottle of Chianti on his recommendation, and a starter for two.
The food was OK, but not any special. There was so much meat on my plate that I had no chance of finishing (which is very rare, since I'm a huge guy.) When tlme came for the bill, we had figured that 100 Euros would be enough. It turned out to be 168 Euros... My main course consisted of 1 kg of meat, it turned out - and was priced at 70 Euros. I was never told it was that huge and not even a hint was given about the price. In the menu, this course was priced at 7 Euros, with a footnote explaining that this was per 100 grams. How come the waiter didn't tell that this was 10 times this size and price? Of course because they're only interested in your money. The grand total, without dessert, came at 168 Euros, tip not included. At a good restaurant I would gladly pay that. At this tourist trap? I paid my bill - and went straight home to warn others about this place. Sadly, this place will continue to rip off tourists because no one will check Tripadvisor first. I wish it wasn't like that, but that's life.
