“Late entry to vatican and then hurry through”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

When we reached Vatican, many tours were already in line, our guide insisted that they there is no rush and we would go later, she kept on waiting. The real reason was evident later as we were denied entry. They had booked wrong tickets (for 9.15 am entry) v/s early entry at 8.00am. The guide insisted that agency made mistake an there is no way to fix it.

To her credit she offered coffee and offered to drop off the tour. But this was at 8.30am when most tours were already in the Vatican. Had I been made aware of the ticket snafu earlier and given option to cancel at 8.00 am, i would have gladly done and hopefully found something else.

I would not recommend Argiletum. They are Expedia tour provider, so when booking through Expedia, if you get Argiletum, I would recommend you cancel immediately. On another note, one of the tour participants mentioned they are ok for colosseum, but we do not have experience with that.

“Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's Basilica”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2011

Meeting place was easy to find and the guide was very pleasant, albeit a little full of himself. The tour got started late because the guide insisted on waiting for two women who were late but who had been on a previous tour with him. The beginning explanation of the Sistine Chapel (needed early explanation as no presentations were allowed inside) was very informative altho the guides interpretation of some of the Garden of Eden scenes was pretty bazzar. The museum was very crowded even tho we entered before the opening to the public and the guide moved VERY quickly so often we were left behind and he would get out of range of the wireless microphone so we missed a lot. There were a lot of beautiful paintings, statues, carvings, mosaics but many were passed right by. I would guess that only about 10-15% of the artifacts were explained. I understand that there are time limits but so much was missed. We were given 10 minutes of "free time" in the Sistine Chapel and it took all of that to get from one end of the room to the other...it was as crowded as a NY subway at rush hour. The Basilica was skimmed as the guide seemed anxious to be done. While it would mean waiting in long lines to get in (but would be significantly less expensive), if you want to take your time and see all that you want to and take the time to read all the descriptions, I would highly recommend entering with the public and planning on spending the day inside. It won't diminish the crowds but will allow you to set the pace.
