I spent a night there before Easter, and it is not the first time. My opinion is basically positive. Let’s say that is true that the place is not within the expectations of the tourists who are looking for "comfort." Everything there is essential. Including the cost , which is minimal. But the connection with Rome is exceptional. Just take a bus, and arrive after about 15 minutes to the Metro EUR FERMI .
I see that some people say that the building seems a THIRD WORLD, an uncultivated Jungle. But have they really looked this so called jungle? There are trees full of fruit, orange and lemon trees and a vegetable garden stocked with all kinds of seasonal vegetables. In summer there is even a swimming pool .
The “rooms” are not the greatest comfort. Furniture and accessories are all made by the managers. But there is no dirt , I'd rather would say that there is a complete disregard for aesthetics. The floors are ugly rather than dirty. The sheets are clean but not ironed, they smell of detergent, without added flavors . During my stay the bathrooms were clean. If we had not found the toilet paper I would have asked one of the owners, whose charm if you really wants to find some, is to be shady and gruff .
Among other things, I discovered that they are not so primitive, even if sometimes they go around shirtless and with pants that look like underwear. Often rude, but educated and graduated. One of the activities of the Oikos is to organize volunteers around the world . If you dare to ask to sit with them to have a drink or something to eat and they are in good mood (because sometimes they just want to be left alone), you will enjoy fine wines and delicious food , and eventually you can become friends or something like that .
To spend a night at the Oikos Hostel is cheap and it can be an adventure. The place can really be placed in another country, or back in time, in the seventies.
