“The place to stay in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Any minor negatives out way all the positives.

Great location 15 mins walk from travestre and restaurants of old Rome and 5 mins from Vatican. 15 mins from piazza navone...anywhere else get a cab or shuttle bus.

The best bit getting back from a long morning and afternoon and lazing by the pool for a few hours its bliss. Ideally 4 nights for that mix of rest and sightseeing

We did bike tour of city centre for three hours the first day and you really get your bearings and see a lot of the sites (top bike rental )

Rooms are lovely we had grand premium city view and it was plenty big for 2 with fab shower

Food good and yes drinks expensive...but you pay for this luxury.

This is definitely a getaway from the hustle and bustle from the town center, and it is a mere 10 min taxi ride from the Spanish steps and other tourist spots. The rooms are clean and spacious, the staff nice and helpful. One complaint would be the quality of the breakfasts, most food in the buffet are “being refilled” meaning you see empty plates after empty plates on the buffet tables, not something you often see in any hotels or restaurants.

What's best is always the feeling when you return from a long hot day outside and the hotel is like your retreat in the packed city of Rome.

If you have time, try walking up the hill at the back of the hotel where you can have a beautiful view of the city.

From the moment you pul in you are greeted by the most charming , competent bellmen. The front desk staff are warm, friendly and caring. The shuttle driver, Andreus, was very helpful in giving direction and being very hospitable. No need for the suit though when it is 43 degrees! We booked the deluxe room. It was beautiful to look at but the shower in the bedroom is odd although it is the best shower I have had in my long life. A bidet is not necessary in 2013 and could have used either a second sink or shelf for cosmetic bags. The hairdryer was the best ever and I have traveled weekly over the past 16 years. Also appreciated the well lit mirror and magnifying mirror. Must have been a woman involved. The tray type tables are attractive but the space could have been better used with a shelf. The only chair is similar to a dining chair which left just the bed for relaxing. Not ideal! The life guard seemed to have multiple duties and there were several unattended children at the pool. It would be wrong to count on the life guard for rescuing duties when she is handing out towels, moving furniture etc. All in all, would stay there again without hesitation. Would have to save up though because it is pricey. You get what you pay for!

Our visit to Grand Melia was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed.
The hotel is situated close to the Vatican City and a 10min walk over the river to the main city .
It's an oasis of calm and serene grounds away from the bustling city sights.
We loved our 4 night stay here, we ate in the pool side restaurant and the food was delightful.
Our Red Level room gave us some extra privileges ,NICE!
Friendly service ,attentive staff good all round hotel

Room Tip: Book red level if u can , nice view of Vatican City

My fiirst visit with my family to this impressive hotel in the heart of Rome. The decor of the hotel, gardens, outside pool and position of the hotel are unforgetable. A big praise to all the Gran Melia team for their courtesy, service and kindness. A special thanks goes to the Liquid restaurant personnel (big thank you for the wine recommendation) who looked after us when we either visited the restaurant or used the outside pool. One must also not forget the Red Level' team. Samuel, your restaurant recommedations were truly magnificient.
My only remark is the view from our junior suite number 306. It is simply not nice to open your windows and look onto a dirty street with dipleted buildings less than 5 meters away. On the other hand, the deluxe room, 303, occupied by my sons ahd alovely view of the Gran Melia' gardens. It does not make sense that a suite should have this kind of view whist a deluxe room has a far better view.
But we will definitely return to this hotel - only not in suite 306.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking the garden or pool area. Definitely avoid 302, 304 306 as these over a na...

This hotel was our retreat in an action packed city. After touring during the morning, there was nothing better than heading to the pool and having cocktail service to relax and re-energize before heading back out. The hotel is located near everything, but just far enough away were you can relax and re-energize.

Maria and the Red Level staff made this one of the best stays we have ever had in our world-wide travels. The staff in the hotel is super friendly and accommodating. They made wonderful recommendations and the Red Level concierges made any wish that we had a reality during our stay. The Gran Melia is by far the best, most under rated hotels in Rome. The hotel is modern and peaceful, you are surrounded by nature and some of the most incredible views of Rome are right on top of Via del Gianicolo. They have wonderful air conditioning and great water pressure, one of the benefits of being a new property :) I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. People need to check it out!

We stayed here for our mini moon, a short stay of 5 days. The hotel is beautiful, the staff were wonderful and so helpful.
The spa was heaven, peace and quiet and very calming.
The hotel is in a great location, a very short walk from the vatican (best time to visit is 7am).

We would recommend this hotel to friends.
