Decided to go to Rome at the last minute for the bank holiday weekend. Phoned/emailed around 50 tripadvisor rated hotels, then tried hotels.com and other hotel websites. Couldn't find any accommodation except the very expensive 5*, poorly rated/termini neighbourhood, or too far outside Rome. This was the only suitable place I could find at short notice, and it wasn't cheap - I paid Eur750 for 4 nights.
The room and bathroom (shower only) were newly refurbished so in good, clean condition, nice decor and colours. Room and bathroom cleaned very well daily with clean towels. However, both the room and bathroom were tiny. I did read on tripadvisor that accommodation in Rome is expensive and small.
Breakfast was pretty basic but OK since we don't eat a lot. A couple of croissants, jam, butter, tea or coffee. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Hotel on the 1st floor of a building and might be affiliated with Dei Quiriti (since they shared the same brass plate and door mat bore the the latter's name).
Short walk to Vatican and St Pauls (10-15mins). We are quite active so walked to some other attractions (Villa Borghese, Spanish Steps, Trevi 20-40mins) although we took the metro to the Colesseum. Metro station is a 5min walk away. Quiet, safe, residential neighbourhood although the refuse collectors came around midnight every night to empty the bins (outside our window). Some nice restaurants/cafes nearby (frequented by Romans, not tourists).
I didn't have any issues with the hotel - it served it's purpose, was clean and nice condition. If I go to Rome again, I would try to book earlier so I could get better value for money or one of hotels more highly rated by tripadvisor members.
