The hotel was recommended in Rick Steves' Rome 2009 book, which listed it as a 1star hotel. It was clean, the staff were friendly, helpful and the hotel was located centrally near the main train station (Roma Termini), but not far from several tourist sites (a short brisk walk to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain), and a short walk to the Republica metro station.
The room was small, but modern and the bathroom was new and very clean. Self-serve breakfast was included in the price and it was filling and delicious. I actually stayed in their annex across the street, which had its own floor in an apartment/hotel/office building.

We are Rick Steves' travelers and he suggests this street and this hotel. It is all one needs for a basic Rome visitation. Why waste your money on a more expensive hotel. This one is clean, has an unbeatable location and an excellent front desk staff.

I became dependent upon Nadine. She and Sabrina gave 5 star concierge service for a 2 star hotel. Initially on the first night, her unbelievable prompt for us to walk to the Trevi Fountain proved to be a very enjoyable walk, then she suggested an opera aria for one of our nights. Sabrina tried to make reservations for us, but we were too late in the day. Simple walk-up to the box window gave us great seats. Lucky, but serendipitious.

the hotel is only one block walk to the outrageously busy Nationzale with buses every five minutes in both directions, one can get anywhere without using a taxi or walking. I purchased the three day bus pass and we got on and off buses at will. Rome is a horribly busy city, but the public transport is hard to beat.

They have developed a great service regimen for travelers. One service is a 50E limo service to the airport. I was going to use the Metro, but after arriving at my plane, I do not see how the Metro could have given me such direct to gate service. There is no doubt that co-ordination of plane departure is of top priority. Their 50E limo service was tough to beat.

We stayed in Room 42 during our visit. We had booked a double room, but when we arrived, a triple was available. They gave us the triple at no extra charge. The room was very clean, and the bathroom looked as though it had been recently remodeled. Shampoo packets and soap were provided, as well as a hair dryer. The room also had a mini-fridge. We chose not to have a room with air conditioning since the weather was pretty nice, and slept with the window open. The window opened onto a courtyard and the only noise we heard was air conditioners. Breakfast was typical for a European hotel. A laptop was available in the dining room with free internet access. Overall, this was a very decent hotel in a good location. I would definitely stay there again.

Dear guest,

We thank you for adding your personal comment on the web and are pleased you liked the room you had during your stay at Hotel Italia.
Our hotel offers different kind of room in order to satisfy in the best way possible all our guests' needs. Some rooms are located on the courtyard and some face the street but all are pretty quiet thanks to double window pans.
We look forward to welcoming you at Hotel Italia again!
Best regards

Great location for all the main sites and a walk from the Station making the taxi unecessary. Easy metro ride to the Vatican and just a very short walk to restaurants including the excellent La Carbonara. We asked for a quiet room and got exactly that. Our bathroom was a little more cramped than others in the hotel. Carpets and decoration in good order and clean. Breakfast typically continental but adequate. Staff effortlessly changed language from Italian, to excellent French and English and always helpful. We borrowed one of their guide-books. We will certainly stay again.

Stepping out of the elevator we were welcomed and assisted by friendly Sabrina, who along with Andrea and other staff, provided excellent service and assistance during our stay. We stayed at this hotel twice during our trip to Italy - the first time we were in one of the rooms in the annex across the street, the second time we were in the main building. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast service and internet access nice amenities. Also, as a traveler with physical limitations, I found the minimal number of steps to the elevators in both buildings helpful. The location is perfect for walking to all the major sites - and as others mentioned, a bus ride was only necessary to go to the Vatican.

Other services we found helpful were purchasing bus passes at the front desk, the shuttle service to the airport, and especially the map and clear directions we received each day to our destinations. The quality and value of this hotel make this a top choice for anyone looking for budget-friendly, and most importantly traveler-friendly place to stay.
