My husband and I stayed 3 nights at this lovely little hotel (16-19 April) and will do so again when we visit Rome. I read many reviews before choosing Hotel Italia, and we were not disappointed in this final decision. While the room and bathroom are small, we knew that ahead of time, and since we were getting on a cruise ship soon, we didn't mind not being spoiled with a large room! Moreover, we were in our room so little that the tight space was no problem.
We loved the location, choosing it because of its proximity to Termini. But in actuality, it was close to everything for us. I do admit we are walkers, but aside from the Vatican (which we did walk to), the major sites in Rome are simply not that far away.
The staff at Hotel Italia is its strongest point. Sabrina was so friendly and helpful. One evening manager (wish I'd caught his name) was especially helpful. He'd seen that I was having trouble making phone calls from my room (I was now in the lobby on their free laptop - another nice touch), and he offered to make the call himself! He tried several times. Another staff immediately took care of some noisy girls in an adjoining room. We were impressed with all the staff, and the ones who help with the breakfast buffet were attentive as well. Great cappuccino, but do beware that the breakfast is fairly basic. It served us well, however, and if you need more, there's a grocery store across the street, which we used. Ricca Est is a terrific restaurant just a couple blocks away. We ate there twice, and we felt it was a good sign that locals were lined up to get in.
Take advantage of the free internet, travel books, terrific staff, and outstanding location.
