“Interesting History of a rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Takes a little time to get there via the Metro and bus, and once there quite a good walk down the road from where the bus 660 drops you off. The Tour was 16 Euro per person for an English guided tour. We had a nice Indian Catholic Priest who was very knowledgable. Tour only lasted about 45 mins. Can be quite cool under ground although it was a pleasant relief from the above ground heat. There are some nice garden restaurants along the Via Apia Antica the same road where the Catacombe's are. Getting back was not so easy, we waited with many others from the tour for a good hour for the bus at the stop around the corner of the entrance, and no seats, so prepare time for this just in case. Most interesting history.

“Cool experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

I'm really glad I visited San Sebastiano. Our tour guide was very good. I took the Archeobus here from Termini and the 118 bus on the return. Ask the staff for information on where to catch the return bus; it was a little tricky to find the correct bus stop for a ride back into town.

“interesting Catacombs. Reasonable tour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

Visiting the Catacombs was on our list of things to do in Rome. As we were driving it made sense to stop as we were leaving . Guess one needs to get public transport if you dont have a car.. thd first one we stopped at was closed for lunch between 12 and 2 so we went to Saint Sabastians. Reasonably priced for the 4 of us. Only had 5min wait before tour started. Informative tour in English. (35mins) Helpful guide. Catacombs themselves very interesting but a bit clean and tidy.. no skulls or bones which disappointed my sons!!! Tour ended in the church viewing one of Bernini's last pieces of work...an added bonus.

“Not easy to get to, but was worth it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We waited one hour for the bus, but after a 15 minute ride, we arrived and only had to wait 10 minutes for a tour in English. It was cold and eerie, but fascinating. Our female guide was good, but we learnt much more when we were waiting for the bus to go back, as we met up with another guide, and chatted for ages. There are 3 levels underground, totaling 12 kilometres, with approximately 65,000 graves (mostly empty). You only get to see a small part of it, and then emerge in the church. You are not allowed to take photos in the catacombes, but you can in the church.

“Really out of the way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

The catacombs are outside of the city. There are only 2 busses that go out that way. You can also take a cab but the problem then is how to grab a cab for the trip back. It may be worthwhile to have a hired car for the day. The catacombs are underground cemeteries so don't o if you are claustrophobic. Bring a sweater because it is cold down there. On view are crypts, some artifacts; no skeletons or mummies. There is a church on top of this one.
