“best location for a good four star hotel in Rome”

An Oasis of calm in the real hold roman heart of Rome
Kolbe Hotel Rome is "the Place" to Stay in Rome, just face to face to the Palatine hill.
An oasis of calm and splendor to return to after playing the tourist in the Eternal City.
where can you have dinner in a splendid and romantic atmosphere ?? at the hotel restaurant “il giardino degli aranci”. Soft lights have been put to complete the beauty of the garden..
The hotel is within easy walking distance of Rome's key attractions, Colosseum, Forum Romanum, Circo Massimo,. The fashion houses in Via Condotti and Via Frattini with Spanish Steps , are just a ten-minute walk from the Kolbe Hotel Rome and the Trevi Fountain are also within easy access.
The room we had was a double deluxe with the incredible Palatine hill view. The Palatine Hill is the centermost of the Seven Hills of Rome and is one of the most ancient parts of the old roman city. It stands 40 mt. above the Forum Romanum, looking down upon it on one side, and upon the Kolbe Hotel Rome building on the other. It was a full immersion in the culture and history that is even the reason we have chosen this hotel for our “ Vacanze Romane”. Of course it is our preferred hotel in Rome and we will suggest this hotel to all our friends for all above positive points and for good value for money as well.

Room Tip: Ask for the room Palatine Hill view, there are spectacular with an amazing view

Overall the hotel was extremely good, minus a few niggles but these are VERY minor, they hardly matter.

The niggles

The air con in the room didn't work, but we didn't need it, so we didn't mention it because it wasn't a bother to us. The toilet door in the room didn't lock, and with it being an opaque glass sliding door, it wasn't most convenient when your partner is sat a few meters away from the door. Good job we are comfortable with each other. And finally, the seagulls. They are THE most noisy birds ever. They go at it all night. This isn't the hotel's fault, and this hasn't made me mark them down any.

The goods

The hotel staff are extremely welcoming, always saying hello when they see you. Whenever we needed anything from reception they were happy to oblige. When we checked in they told us where all the major sights are and how to get to them and advised of the hotel services.
The wifi in the hotel is excellent, with coverage everywhere. We just got a slip from reception with the password on and we were away. It seemed that they normally charge but they told us it was free. Same goes for the mini bar. We used a few things from it, but they didn't charge.
The room itself was nice, the bed hard but we liked that. There is lots of storage for all your things. The bathroom is nice, no bath, however. And when you've been out walking all day it would have been nice to have a bath! The TV has three English channels on, all news but they have interesting programmes on. The blackout curtains are excellent, especially when you want a lay in. Although there are so many little lights it is a bit like a light show when you wake up in the night. Again, not a bother. The safe is free of charge and the rooms are made up daily.

Rome is a lovely city, I'd advise getting a hop-on, hop-off bus tour, this way you get to see so many sights. Don't get a tour round the Colloseum, as the queue is never overly long, but do round the Vatican because the queue was huge. Eating out is relatively cheap if you go to the right places. We tended to go towards the Trevi Fountain and go left down the side street (if you're looking at the fountain, the road is to your left. This way you'll get to the Pantheon and the Four Rivers fountain. We went to a restaurant twice called Rosa Rosae. They recognised us the second night. We went all out that night and they gave us complimentary grappa. If you go here, you HAVE to try the tiramisu! I've never been a fan, but this was delicious. It's on Via di Pietra, 88. Go here! Other than that, it's great to find your own way round. I'd highly recommend this hotel and Rome as a getaway destination.

We were looking on the internet for hours and hours for a nice 4 star hotel in Rome, Kolbe Hotel Rome seemed to be the best choice given its price, appearance, location and reviews; and so it was.
A few days before arrival I've asked via mail for a room in the higher floors and I got a quick and polite response.
Our room was located on the 3rd floor and was a deluxe superior room or junior suite. Do not rely too much on these descriptions, I don't think that there is any difference. I did make sure though beforehand that all the Deluxe rooms got the great whirlpool shown on the pictures.
In fact the jacuzzi looked exactly like on the pics, pretty awesome !
Our room was really nice and very clean, we had 3 big windows with pleasant views and stairs in the room leading up to a gallery where there was our double bed. Size was good as well, most hotel rooms in Rome are rather small, I'm pretty sure ours was one of the bigger ones (30 sqm), as certainly not small at all, like a lot of previous reviews said.

As for the location, it is quite a walk to the entrance of the Forum Romanum and the Colosseum, but with nice views over the Forum along all the way, and you pass via the Musei Captitolini with easy access to Vittorio Emmanuele Monument.
Breakfast was ok, nothing special but good. Very nice garden. Staff was friendly and polite.
What I didn't understand was that the hotel could/would not organise an airport transfer for us, even though there are many shuttle and transfer services to the airport which you can book yourself in advance...
Anyway, I would definitly recommend this hotel and would stay here again :)

Room Tip: Ask for a deluxe room with whirlpool in the higher floors, garden side is quiet and really nice

A dream view on a Garden or on the Palatine hill
best location cannot be, in the real hisorical heart of Rome between the Forum romanum, colosseum, the Tempio di Veste and Circus Maximo. All important monument are at walking distance
This is a truly wonderful hotel. The view of the garden and on the garden fontain as one enters the hotel sets the atmosphere for what is to come - a remarkable central located hotel which is a real joy to stay at. The highlight is definitely the room view we had garden view but there is the possibiolity to have also room with Palatine view. The rooms are large with a modern italian design style well furbished. The staff were friendly and and had an italian informality which is sometimes lacking in such hotels. The kolbe hotel rome is an exceptional place to stay.

Room Tip: best location you can immagine, in front of the Palatine hill

Beautifully presented hotel with clean and spacious rooms, nicely decorated.
Also very convenient for sight seeing in Rome.
Two niggles from our perspective - we were given ground floor rooms at 'road' level - this was quite noisy and I would definitely request garden-facing rooms if we were to stay there again. These would be much quieter.
We were able to open the window - something that I like - but the road noise was so loud (tyres on cobbled streets) we couldn't leave the window open for long. We tried to operate the air conditioning to cool the room down - couldn't get it to work. The following day we found out that we had to ask reception to turn it on for us! There was no sign/leaflet or literature of any kind in the room to tell us to do it. So we endured a hot night with limited circulation.
However, beds were comfortable, breakfast plentiful and staff helpful.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet night, ask for a garden facing room.

Hotel is situated at the Forum. Open your curtains and there it is. There is also a pleasant garden to have a drink in and food is fresh and of good quality, portions are small though. Hotel staff are very nice and make you feel welcome. You can walk to the Colosseum in 15 minutes and there is plenty to see on the way. The rooms are of a good size and the bathrooms are new and clean. Wifi free and works well. The air conditioning does work, so beware, bring your PJs! The breakfast is not great, coffee was the worst we had in Rome. We went out to numerous cafes after the first morning. Great hotel for a few nights, good food, great staff, fantastic location and reasonable rate. Would recommend and would go,back.

a superbe view with amazing friendly staff

We have just come back from a four night stay at the Kolbe Hotel in Rome. It is a truely lovely hotel, right in the real historical center , so a really fantasic location. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, the staff (all of them) were really polite & friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed 4 nights in room 220, which was very quiet. It was a superior Deluxe room, with a view of the hotel Garden even from the bathroom. It was a nice big room with a comfortable sofa with a double bathtub Jacuzzi, where we really relaxed. We slept really well in this room, as it was very quiet & dark with the blinds etc shut. On the Monday It was my birthday, we had our dinner in the hotel restaurant, they surprised us offering us a bottle of italian sparkling wine with a card with best wishes for my birthday. It was a great personalized serice. We will be going back to Rome next year for my birhday & we will be more than happy to stay at the Kolbe Hotel Rome again. We will suggest this excellent 4 star hotel to our friends.

Room Tip: room with garden view are very quite
