“Nice hotel but not spectacular”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2012

This hotel was clean and friendly with a beautiful garden out back. There were however a few downsides. The continental breakfast was ok, but food lacked variety and local flare. Just your average scrambled eggs and bacon and juices/cereal.

We stayed at this hotel for a week and the breakfast was identical everyday. I would have liked to have had some kind of variety in what was available.

As for the location, it was quite good but be warned it is quite far from Termini and the local shops in Circo Massimo close very early. One night we wanted to get a bottle of wine and had to venture to Termini which was not very fun.

Overall clean hotel with average rooms. Location was decent but was a bit of a hike to most major attractions.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the garden

We stayed in the Kolbe hotel for four nights at the end of February 2012. I have to say firstly the service we received was superb, the staff were very helpful and check-in and out was a breeze. The hotel itself is in an amazing location if you like the forum architecture, the coliseum and a quiet location, its perfect for you, it sits just off the track at circus maximus and within a walk of about 10 minutes of one of Rome’s metro lines, Rome only has two metro lines by the way, but it is a nice walk to it.
We were given a courtyard room, with large doors that opened up into a private garden space which the hotel is surrounding. This was a nice surprise and was very picturesque, the patio bar attached to the restaurant offered a nice quiet area, with the exception of the Sunday morning bells, to sit and enjoy breakfast & coffee. Breakfast was included in the package we booked, and we found the buffet breakfast well stocked and with ample selection to suit the carnivore or vegetarian and everything in between.
Rome is always a walking holiday and this hotel is ideally situated for a walk around the back towards the coliseum or around the front and along the river Tiber. The room size was good, not too large, but in comparison to some of the rooms I’ve previously stayed at in New York or Paris, I found it ok, not huge, but with enough space to relax. The hotel has a maze of corridors that made finding our way back to the room interesting, but overall it was fine and comfortable.
On the whole the staff was really friendly, there was one staff member who could come across as rude if you put him in an American, Irish or British context, but really he was helpful, if only seeming slightly rushed or hassled. All the rest of the staff would bend over backwards to complete a task, and we were there in their quiet season so they did everything with a smile even with the seasons minimum staff requirements. . I would defiantly recommend this hotel to my friends; in fact I have already recommended it to my parents for their next trip to Rome.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden or courtyard facing room, a nice view to wake to.

Great location, walking distance to the colosseo is 10-15 mins :D and 10 mins to the center

Great rooms, and exceptional staff, i would recommend this hotel to all sorts of travelers, a family a group of friends and even a romantic getaway.

Perfect value for money.

Room Tip: ask for rooms overlooking the internal garden

My husband and I brought my brother to Rome as part of his first trip to Europe. I would happily stay at this hotel any time I am in Rome. The hotel is modern, clean and comfortable (except for the pillows, but that is strictly my opinion). The staff were friendly and very helpful. The restaurant of a hotel is often skipped, with travellers choosing to eat out. This restaurant was great - attentive, knowledgable waitstaff, and really good delicious food. Great for family, couples, or single traveller - especially any traveller looking to discover ancient Rome. The view out of our second floor window was of the Roman Forum!! The weather was great, sunny but not too hot. Feb meant the lines were short, and there were some areas closed for renovations, but not enough to feel cheated of spectacular sites! There are even hop-on hop-off bus stops nearby at the Circus Maximus. See the map I have photo'd if you need further encouragement to stay at this gem!

I've spent one of the best Holiday of my life in this Hotel.
I've booked the room on Internet and it was safe and fast. The rate was good as they offered a discount for a 3 nights stay. I suggest to book even their limousine service from the airport as it is a very confortable way to arrive in Hotel in a big city like rome ( the airport is 40 minutes by car from the Hotel).
I was immediately impressed at the arrival as the lady at the desk seemed was waiting for us like good friends,. she gave us a very warm welcome, explaining all the Roman attraction, monuments and special places to visit like Campo de Fiori, Trastevere, Panteon and others. Ohhhh Rome is incredible. I couldn't imagine how many things you can see even without paying any entrance fee!!!! All churches are free, Saint peter basilica, Panteon, Mouth of truth. You even have fantastic view from terraces like in Campidoglio from where you vcan see all the Ancient Forum with the place where Giulius Caesar was burned!!!! Than you have the fantastic squares: Navona, Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo and the fountains.
The Hotel staff helped me to book the entrance for Galleria Borghese. This is one of the place you can't miss. Sistin Chapel of course have to be visited. I bought a guided tour in the Hotel and it has been very good and confortable.
After all this visiting I tell you that a relaxing break in the hotel restaurant in the evening is a very surprise. Excellent food, friendly staff, fantastic wine and honest price. try it!! I suggest you the Amatrichiana Pasta. Is a tipical roman food that I had the chance to eat in many italian restaurants but here at Kolbe it was simply superb!!!
Next time I come back to Rome it will definetly be KOLBE HOTEL!
SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL STAFF THAT MADE MY HOLIDAY UNFORGETABLE!

I have choosen this hotel for the position and for the suggestion of some friends. I couldn't do a better choise. The Hotel is in a fantastic area in the middle of the archeological site. I can't say how many monuments you will find around the Hotel: Circus MAximo, Ancient Forum, Mouth of Truth, Venezia Square are only some of the fantastic places nearby. Trastevere is Just few steps as well as the Coliseum. Ancient building but totally renewed so you can find an exiting mixage beetwen the history and the modern. When I discovered the breakfast tables in the garden I wanted to try even the restaurant at night and I "fell in love" with their food!!!! In Rome is quite easy to have good food, but the taste of their kitchen served with the lovely dealing of the staff seems to bring you in an other age like in a Michelangelo paint.

I think this is the best place I have ever been and I want to thanks all the fantastic persons that work there for their kindness and friendness.

Rome is incredible and this hotel is the best to visit all the archaeological sites. It is in the area of Ancient Roman Forum. There is only a small street between the hotel windows and the ruins of Roman Imperor Houses so from the room you can see all time the monuments. Colosseo, Circus Maximum and so many other monuments are few steps from the Hotel. Behind the Hotel there is a very beautiful Church and an antique marble arch. We have walked a lot as Rome time is never enough to visit everything. Near the Hotel there is even a City Tour stop and I think is the best way to have an overall idea of the places. So many places have not to be missed: Saint Peter and Systine Chapel, The Squares and Trastevere. At night we used to come back in hotel and have dinner in the very quiet restaurant. Good food and staff. Hotel is very clean and modern, has good services like good breakfast, wifi in the room, and a beautiful garden to enjoy a drink in relax. The room was big and with a Jacuzzi bath that we enjoyed so much.

We were very happy to have chosen Hotel Kolbe.
