“Best hotel in Europe that I have stayed in...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2007

Firstly, the one bad review below was not actually staying in the hotel....I'm not sure what apartments they are talking about. Their description doesn't even sound like this hotel. Maybe they are owned by the hotel?

Hotel Campo de Fiori: Simply the best hotel I have stayed in in Europe thus far. It is in a great location, beautiful furnishings, very updated and the staff were very helpful.

When my husband and I walked into our room, we immediately awwed at how nice it was. Dark wood furnishings, super comfortable bed with a nicer duvet and curtains than we own! The flat screen tv was inlaid into a huge fram on the wall and had music to select. We walked into the marble and tile bathroom to realize that there was a speaker in the bathroom too! So you can listen to anything from Bob Marley, Classical, Pop, or Italian while taking a shower or brushing your teeth.

The hotel also offers a European style breakfast that won't excite you if you are an American but that is expected. The hotel also has a roof top terrace which you can see most of Rome and St. Peter's basilica (which we got some fantastic sunset pictures from up there). We spent our last night drinking wine on the terrace, watching the sunset and listening to the music drifting up from the Piazza next to the hotel. Simply perfect.

I will never stay anywhere else when I go back to Rome...and you shouldn't either!!

The good: Great location, decent if loud air conditioning keeps the noise factor to a minimum. The place itself is decent.

The bad: For starters, we booked a first floor apartment and got the third floor one. The beds were not at all good. The apartment building also lacked a working elevator and so we had to climb four flights of stairs each time we went up. Heck, even the TV didn't work.

Bottom line, the hotel might be great, but the apartments are not.

I am a long time customer of this hotel and have stayed here many times over the past 10 years. I have also stayed in their apartments which are also very nice and well located.

The rooms are nicely furnished, clean and comfortable.

The staff is friendly , knowledgeable and helpful and make you feel very welcome.

The location is perfectly situated in Campo dei Fiori and is a close walking distance to most sights. It also has many great food shops, restaurants and bars nearby.

The view from the terrace on the top of the hotel is fantastic!

We just returned from Rome and spending 4 nights at the Hotel Campo De Fiori. The hotel and central location could not have been better. The hotel has just been completly renovated and the rooms are great with terrific air conditioning, modernized bathrooms with excellent showers, comfortable bed, and unique decor. The large roof top terrace on the 6th floor has a spectacular view of the dome of St Peters Basilica and all of Rome. and there is nothing better than taking a bottle of wine up there and watching the sun set. The breakfast room on the lower level is decorated with antiques and is a great way to start your day before heading out to do some sightseeing.

Located in the Campo De Fiori piazza area there are plenty of bars, restuarants, shops, etc to keep you busy. Also most sights you would want to see are just a short walk or an easy bus ride away. Franco and his staff will be happy to guide you anywhere.

I just want to say when I return to Rome, soon, I will be staying at the Hotel Campo De Fiori and can not wait to be greated by Franco, Andreas, Angelo, & Michael. Make it easy on yourself and stay at a fantastic Italian hotel.. Contact them @ hotelcampodefiori.com

PS... The best pizza place in Italy, Baffetto "2" is just around the corner. Say HI to Anna for me.

We recently had 2 nights in Rome and the location of this hotel really coudn't be better. The busy square is virtually just outside the door and most attractions are in walking distance. The recent refurbishment is very stylish with a modern edge to the old world charm, combining items such as chandeliers, purple walls and silk curtains. Sounds strange but it works! The rooms are small, but have everything you need including flat screen TV, ours had a tiny balcony overlooking the roof tops of the old city. The small bathroom was very modern with an excellent shower. Although looking incomplete (like empty window boxes) the roof top terrace offers magnificent views over the city. The staff are efficent, but perhaps a little smug, and the breakfast is not really worth turning up for!

We would stay there again, but perhaps try to negotiate a rate that didn't include breakfast!

Rome was our last stop in Italy, and this hotel our worst accommodation. We had reserved an apartment which turned out to be right off the piazza. After traversing a dark corridor with a rusty moped parked inside, we arrived at our second-story rooms. One bedroom (with a strange cot attached to a chair) was right over the square, with preparations for market starting at 5 am. Although clean, the furnishings were sparse - the "courtyard patio" consisted of a rickety plastic table and a cut-off garden hose on a sink faucet. The hotel staff treated us as an ugly stepchild, with no maid service, no breakfast, and no help w/our luggage - all this for 200 euros a night. There was no airconditioning, but they did provide us with another fan so we could attempt to cool the place. Fortunately, we were so tired at days' end, we did sleep. The hotel looked nice, but we never made it past the lobby. When checking out, we informed them of leakage around the toilet, and they didn't particularly seem concerned - almost as if we had done something. The location was great - walking to many sites was easily accomplished, and the piazza is charming. Stay nearby, but not at this hotel.

This hotel had a refurbishment last year and our double room was comfortable and smart, and the bathroom was excellent - clean and with a terrific shower.

I don't think the hotel could be better positioned for the tourist in Rome, there is so much to see within a 5, 10 or 15 minute walk. The only time we took a taxi was to go out to dinner or go further afield, e.g. the Villa Borghese gardens.

The only let-down was that the welcome was not good - there was no mention of breakfast and how to get it (incidentally, it's with a voucher system with a local cafe), nor the roof-top terrace (which has lovely views over the city), nor how to use internet in your room (ask for a keyboard at reception), etc. A welcome introduction would have been useful, as would a directory in the bedroom.

Overall, a nice place to stay, but missing a few key staff-guest touches.
