We stayed at Hotel Astrid from June 5th-9th,2009. Upon our check in, we received room on the 5th floor which was a large room with a great view. The only problem was the air conditioning. Therefore, we went to the reception where they tried to get the AC going but no luck. Therefore, they put us in a smaller room facing the courtyard, again no AC. Apparently, AC was not working in any unit on the 5th floor. We went back to reception and ended up with an excellent room on the 4th floor with an awesome view on St Peter's Basilica. We enjoyed our stay from there on. Here are some pros & cons of Hotel Astrid:

PROS:
- Large room with a view
- Safe & Fridge on location
- Clean facility
- Free Wifi
- Great service
- Free drinks in fridge replenished everyday!
- Excellent breakfast
- Next to the river, was a great place to run in the morning!

CONS:
- Location not the best, 30 mins walk from Flaminio station
- Noisy street, sleep with earplugs is a must.
- Small bathroom, tiny shower. No bathtub.

Management response from LUCA BISCARINI, proprietario
(Management representative)
Jul 2, 2009
Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking the time to write a letter about the accommodations you
received at our hotel.
Guest satisfaction is the goal of
our management. We will do our best to meet that goal by improving and maintianing
our hotel in its best conditions.

First of all I want to apologize about the air conditioning: that day the 5th floor ac unit was not working and we had it fixed the day after.

About our location, let me underline that we are just 1 km away from the very centre of Rome and that there is a tramway that runs close to the Hotel, which brings you to Flaminio metro station in 5 minutes.

Concerning the noisy street you mentioned, please note that rooms with view face the street while rooms on the backyard are pretty quiet.

One last thing I would like you to know: beeing a eighteen century building our Hotel has some bathrooms larger than others and, for the same reason, not all rooms have a bathtub.

We look forward to a future opportunity to serve your lodging needs

Sincerely

Luca

The actual size of the room is unbelievably small. The photo of the room is misleading. There is no walking space around the bed in actuality. There was no balcony in the room like advertised. The first night..the bathroom was set up for only one person although I booked a double room. The temperature in Rome all three nights I stayed was aprox. 100 degrees and the air conditioning in the room was not working. When I called the desk, they told me I requested a large bed when I booked the hotel, and that the particular room with the large bed did not have a working air conditioner. I wish they would have mentioned this to me prior to checking me into this room..so I could have made the decision about what was "priority". The breakfast was very meager, and basically the same every single morning. (bread, boiled eggs only, jams, juice). The view from the breakfast area is not that great and very small where you can hear very clearly the conversation of the table next to yours. The lobby attendant at the end of your trip offers to watch your bags while you walk around locally waiting for your shuttle or taxi. It wasn't until I sat inside the plane did I notice that my iphone was missing from my bag. I had it inside the room prior to leaving and went straight from hotel to airport...

My husband, 16 year old daughter & I just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. It was our first time in Rome and we really enjoyed our stay at the Astrid. We were greeted very cordially at check in and provided with wonderful directions and suggestions for Rome sightseeing. We arrived at around 10 AM and our room was ready and we were allowed to check in right away. The trams were very easy & handy to use. We liked being a little away from the center. We ended up going to the Vatican 3 times (picked up tickets for Easter Mass, attended Easter Mass & visited the Vatican Museums) and found the tram line to be very convenient. The hotel even sold transit tickets, which was very convenient. Breakfast was great and the staff were always very friendly. They even gave our daughter a Kinder Sorpresa big Easter egg on Easter morning. The breakfast room was very pleasant and bright, also. The free water and other soft drinks were the icing on the cake, though the refrigerator in our room did not work well. Our room faced the inner courtyard, so noise was not a problem. My husband was able to use the free internet service on his laptop in our room. We ate at the nearest restaurant on our last night and found it to be very good also.

Why you should stay at Hotel Astrid:
-Great staff. Friendly faces at reception and in the morning during breakfast. It was nice to come back to the hotel after a day of experiencing surly attitudes from waiters and other people in Rome.
-Free internet access
-Wide selection at breakfast buffet
-Clean rooms
-Complimentary bottled water/juices
-Spacious and clean bathrooms

Staff amazing, Great gem right along the Tiber River, so you can't get lost!! The 5th floor - Breakfast room and great views of the Tiber and St. Peters Dome. A short walk to public transit!

Here's something that does not happen at the majority of hotels. We had booked an all day trip to the Isle of Capri and were being picked up at the hotel at 6:30 am. We were going to miss breakfast. As we were standing outside waiting for our bus the gentleman at the front desk comes out to us with a breakfast to go!!

Room small but no issue with that! Beautiful location, Roof Top Terrace was great used it every moring for breakfast - except one and at night to sit outside and watch Rome go by! We walked from St Peters back one day - great walk!
