I booked a 7 day trip to Rome through American Airlines Vacations and selected this hotel from the choices they gave me based on the reviews onTripAdvisor. I was not disappointed in any way.
The hotel has been recently renovated. Public spaces and hotel rooms were decorated in a sophisticated and elegant manner. My king room was surprisingly spacious for a European city hotel, and although I would have preferred extra space in the bath instead of a bidet that's just a cultural difference. The mattress was very firm, which is to my liking. When the maid saw that my husband had rolled an extra blanket as a pillow (he was reading in bed) she brought extra pillows unasked.
The breakfast buffet was generous by European standards and coffee - served with a pitcher of hot milk or as cappucino - was delicious and served with a very high level of professionalism and warmth. The buffet consisted of a variety of fresh and preserved fruit, two types of cereal (a granola and corn flakes), and assortment of sweet pastries and rolls with condiments (butter, preserves, cheese, nutella) and some cold cuts in addition to scrambled and boiled eggs. There was fresh orange juice every day as well.
The concierges, desk clerks, bellmen and barman went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time and never hovered for tips (in fact a tip was turned down once because "I did nothing special for you!") Every member of the staff greeted us whenever we encountered someone in the hallways - it was a very Ritz-Carlton attitude in a small, independent hotel.
I'm a city dweller, so street noises in our room on the 5th floor over the hotel entrance didn't bother me (except for one very early morning when there was a protest by hotel workers at the Starwood property across the street - I am definitely NOT used to air horns at 5 a.m.!) Draperies were more than adequate to block light the day we wanted to sleep in.
The hotel is just a half block from the Piazza della Republicca Metro stop, and most city buses that run through the tourist areas stop right out in front of the hotel or within a couple of blocks (including the N or Nocturno buses).
I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants an enjoyable, ROMAN stay in Rome!
