Don't be put off by the large, imposing wooden door entrance from the busy street that you have to buzz to enter... the hotel, located on the first floor of the large building (it's even an adventure to use the old lift with manual closing doors!!), is excellent value. The rooms and public areas were very clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast was a delight, as much as you could eat from a cold buffet and served in a lovely decorated room. Great location near the Termini (but not too close to the seedy hotel 'ghetto' that surrounds the station itself). Short walk to all the main attractions of Rome (albeit a short bus ride to the Vatican). Highly recommended

3 Bedroom apartment is managed by the Hotel Cortina in an older by well run building. Angelo was a perfect host meeting us to check in and make sure we knew where we were going. 24 hour desk at hotel around the corner is great for getting help. They booked car for us to airport. To get to apartment from train station takes you through seedier part of Rome. However, once you are there you are convenient to walk to historic Roman areas (15 minute walk), bus to St. Pieters (15 minutes #40), and most piazzas and spanish steps (15 minute walk). Good restaurant options and grocery nearby.

A quaint two person elevator is available to take you up to 2nd floor unit. Kitchen was well equipped and washer was appreciated. No view to speak of, but this is Rome, you don't really stay in that much. Very clean and modern bathrooms.

Master Bedroom very sizable. a real bargain compared to the closets that are most hotel rooms in this city.

Were offered a stay in an apartment managed by the hotel. The apartment is about 100 feet from the hotel. Newly renovated, clean, stylish, and comfortable are the words to describe the wonderful one-bedroom apartment (the apartment was called the "Milano").

The apartment had an efficiency kitchen that includes a two-burner smooth-top range, a small fridge, microwave, and all plates, glassware and utensils. The apartment was on the second floor, serviced by an elevator (lift).

The rate for the apartment was a great value with a flat weekly rate. The hotel offers linen service every third day in the apartments. We saved money by having a couple of meals in our apartment with food we bought at the grocery store about one minute walk away.

The apartment had satellite TV with CNN, BBC, and SkyNews in English on a wall-mounted flat-screen. The apartment did not offer internet service, however, there is a public internet kiosk next door to the apartment entry offering 30 minutes of access for 1.50 Euro.

The bathroom was fully-stocked with amenities, the towels were nice and thick, and the towel-warmer was a nice feature. Never had any problems with availability of hot water.

Angelo and his staff were helpful and gracious. In addition, Angelo gave some great recommendations with regard to restaurants, money changing services, and shops in the area.

The location was convenient to dining, shopping, and transportation. Everything we needed was within easy walking distance. Less than five minute walk to the main "Termini" train and bus station.

The breakfast was good. It provided what you would expect at most European hotels with rolls, cereal, pastries, cheese, sliced deli meats, juice, coffee, and tea.

The entrance to the hotel itself looks a bit shop worn, but, don't let the entrance lower your first impression of the hotel. Buildings in Rome are very old, so this is a feature of many properties.

We chose to have the hotel set up our transportation to and from the airport. It may have cost a few Euro more, but, it was efficient and hassle free. The driver was waiting for us with a sign that said "Hotel Cortina" and our last name.

If you stay here, you should be pleased with the choice. Angelo, thanks for a great stay. If we were coming to Rome tomorrow, we would stay right here, felt like home away from home.

Stayed at this little hotel for four nights with some of my friends. The location is great. You can easily walk to it from Termini, but it is more than a few blocks away. It is easy to find, located on the Via Nazionale street. The first two nights we stayed at the apartment the hotel has around the corner. A great apartment. The last two nights we stayed at the hotel. Room was good size, and also nice size on bathroom. The room had a very nice wooden floor. Very clean. One of our rooms had a view out to the Via Nazionale, the other one to a backyard that was not very exiting. The most extraordinary of this hotel was the staff. Very professional, and they went out of their way to help us out on any request we might have. They fixed tickets for the Rome derby when the company we had used did not deliver. On the final day they left the breakfast out for us since we had been out all night, and needed some food before the trip home. We did not ask for this, it was just something they did to be nice. I must say that I was very surpriced that a hotel would let someone eat one hour after the breakfast normally closed without charging anything extra. They where also very good at describing how to get around to places we wanted to visit. I would definately stay there again!

We stayed at the Hotel Cortina for our last 2 nights in Rome, chosen because we wanted to stay close to Termini. Instead of paying 50 Euros to be driven to the airport from the hotel, which the hotel would have willingly arranged for us, we walked from the hotel to Termini, with our cases on wheels, and bought a ticket to the airport for 9 Euros , fifty. Much cheaper, and a way to squeeze the very last drop out of our Italian experience. The hotel is very small, only about 15 rooms, and decorated in an old fashioned "old world" way....lovely. We had a room looking out towards the front with roadworks going on, but the noise didn't seem to be an issue. Rooms were small, but no smaller than lots of other hotels I would imagine. There is a breakfast room with only about 5 tables so that on our day of departure, we had to go back 3 times before there was a vacant table. People are fairly quick over breakfast so not a major problem. Breakfast was lovely, wide variety to choose from....cereals, fruit, yoghurt, meats and cheeses, pastries, breads and jams, juices and tea/coffee made to order. As long as you don't want to spend lots of time in the room, and when on holiday in Italy who does??, this was a very convenient place to stay. The major sights we found were a 10- 15 minute walk away. We would stay here again for the convenience, although would choose somewhere else for more space if staying for a length of time.

  • Liked — convenience to Termini
  • Disliked — not much space in the room we stayed in
