I recently stayed at Casa Howard at the Via Capo di Case location (there are two in Rome). My husband was worried about costs, so I booked the least expensive room (The White Room) which was perfectly adequate, but just a little too small--I like to unpack, and there was no where to put anything. However, glancing at the other rooms, I'd stay there again for sure if I got one of those ones!

For an unserviced hotel, every detail was taken care of. The part time staff was helpful and prompt in answering all requests.

Favorite thing was the wonderfully comfortable mattress! We flew 18 hours to get to Rome and were only staying 3.5 days before flying 18 hours home, so a good night's sleep was essential, and we had it. Also, our bathroom was quite a ways down the hall. I knew it was outside the room but expected it to be closer.

The hotel is situated at the top of the Spanish Steps with all the major sites in walking distance. I stay all over Europe and this hotel was one of the most confortable I have stayed in.
The room was bright and tasfully decorated. The staff were excellent. Always on hand, happy to help but at the same time kept their distance.
I would recommend Casa Howard as the "perfect Rome hotel"

My husband and I stayed at Casa Howard in Rome for our 5th wedding anniversary and my 30th birthday, which just happen to fall on the same day. I will truely never forget that memorable vacation and we are just dying to go back. We actually stayed in Rome only two nights, before disembarking on a Mediterranean cruise, but what a way to start our trip. The staff at Casa Howard could not have been nicer, the room was immaculate and exactly as pictured. The only downside was that we didn't know we needed to ask for an alarm clock - but that was our fault. We didn't anticipate how bad our jetlag might be, how blissfully quiet the hotel would be, how comfortable the bed would be and how dark the drapes would keep the room...so we slept until 2 in the afternoon by accident and almost missed seeing the Vatican!!! We just didn't even notice there wasn't a clock in the room. However, not only was the hotel wonderful, but the staff did truely go out of their way for us - the taxi drivers were on strike the two days we were there and so we navigated everything on foot with the help of some map guidance. The hotel's location is perfect - it's central to everything. Then, the night before straight through until the next morning the staff kept checking to find out if they could get us a taxi for the trip across the city to pick up our transfer to the boat. Thanks to thier diligence and the overnight cease of the strike we didn't have to lug our four suitcases down the Spanish steps!! Thank you to all at Casa Howard, we can't wait to visit Rome again and hopefully stay longer this time.

Fabulous time at Casa Howard in Rome!! I went for a quick getaway on on my own in October. I stayed in the beautiful Chinese room with Dupioni silk curtains overlooking an 18th century apothecary with all the bustle of life just outside my window on warm Roman nights. I insist on luxury decor and that's what I got in a small, intimate boutique hotel that Casa Howard is. Two small casa cobblestone blocks from the Spanish Steps, I woke in the morning to coffee in my room and followed it with wonderful Italian espresso and pastry at a patisserie at the Spanish Steps.
So close to St. Peter's and the Vatican by Metro at the Spanish Steps, breakfast at Babbington's English Tea Shop that served the great English poets...just across from Keats' apartment (now a small museum). Close to the Metro that takes you everywhere you want to be in Rome!
The housekeeper is bilinqual, friendly, and loaded with good information. Though not a maitre'd service, she kindly got me reservations at the exclusive museums to see Caravaggios and other greats, and whipped up the hotel's Mercedes Benz chauffeur to the airport at a price below what it would have cost any other way. It seems he swung by all the beautiful Roman sites in the rosy dawn.
Rome was exquisite (herrlich! I spoke with so many German tourists in Rome!). And after tiring but happy days of walking the Roman streets from the international designer boutiques to the inimitable Italian gourmet delicatessens, I returned to relax in Casa Howard's stunning Turkish bathroom with steam hammadan.
This small, friendly hotel is unmatched for affordable luxury , beauty, and convenient location. I would return in a heartbeat!

We needed a bolt hole in Rome for a few days as we were attending a wedding and Casa Howard in Via Capo le Case was a real find. Each room is differently decorated in a classic (rather than contemporary) style with high quality furnishings. We loved our corner room, which overlooked two bustling streets but in spite of that didn’t seem to get too noisy at might. The room had outside shutters as well as curtains so you could block out the light for a good sleep. The Spanish steps are just 5 minutes walk away so othe central location was ideal for crashing out when we felt like it.

Each room has its own private good quality bathroom but only some are ensuite, so if you object to having to step into the corridor to access your bathroom in the middle of the night get one of the ensuite rooms, which cost a bit more.

We really liked the small neighbourhood cafe just across the street which did THE best fresh cornetti (pastry filled with vanilla creme) and a good cappucino. The place was always immaculate, the staff were helpful too. We would definitely stay here again.
