“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Visconti Palace hotel from Tues 9th April to Fri 12th April. The hotel is situated just off the Piazza Cavour where the airport shuttle drops you off (great value at just 6 euros per person for a single trip). The hotel is just 10/15 minutes walk from the Vatican city and Castle St Angelo is closer. For the Forum, Colusseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain etc, it is very easy to walk to all of these spots form the hotel.. we walked along the river taking in the culture of the city and found places such as Piazza Novano, Pantheon and many other Piazzas to eat and drink. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean with large rooms. Don't expect great views from all rooms as many of the buildings around are all the same height... the roof terrace was open but we only popped there for a look and it looked very nice.Breakfast was great and continental...I can not understand why people moan about continental breakfasts when abroad.... if you go abroad get into the culture or go to Butlins..!!! Some places are very expensive to eat and drink (one place in the Piazza Novano wanted 20 euros for a large beer because they don't charge to sit down or for service...!!) but hey it's a capital city... London is expensive in places but there are many many reasonable places to eat and drink.....The hotel is very clean, rooms cleaned daily, breakfast great, staff very friendly (try to learn a few phrases in Italian, it goes a very long way, after al,l their staff speak your language) and the location just perfect for Vatican city... loved our stay immensely as it was part of my wife's 50th birthday.... would stay again if we return and have already recommended it to friends....

We booked one of the 7th floor suites which means you have a full width balcony and access to the roof terrace, doesnt look much from the outside being in the business area, but inside you are welcomed by a very professional setup, We were met at the airport and were taken to the hotel in very quick time driver knew all the short cuts :). On arrival the room was available even though we were a couple of hours early. Room was very spacious and well presented 3 double patio doors leading onto the balcony, nothing too grand, but great to sit outside, the aforementioned roof terrace is beautifully furnished and is a great sun trap if you just wanted to chill.
On return from our first day site seeing in the Vatican, which is only about 10 minute walk, we were greeted with a bottle of sparking wine and a selection of fruit, Nice Touch - Visconti.
Although the hotel is sandwiched between two roads when the doors are shut, you could not hear a thing and the separate air con units in the lounge and bedroom were quiet enough to have on while sleeping.
Breakfast was the usual continental offering with some bacon and small sausages and something that was supposed to be scrambled egg, but it was so runny I was not sure, one minor point was the PLASTIC cups that were available for orange juice, this I did not expect at such a hotel and was promptly brought real glasses when I requested them.
We stayed for 2 nights and asked if we could extend our checkout to later in the Sunday so we could make full use of the late flight and this was accepted without any further charge.
We had arranged another car to take us back to the airport, thinking that the charge for this would be applied to the bill as per the one that took us to the hotel, but as we were going to the airport they told us as we paid the bill that we had to settle direct with the driver. Having no real cash to speak of I had to rush to an ATM, luckily one nearby so panic over, but would have been nice to have been told that when we asked for the car to be booked the previous day.
The Hotel location is excellent walking distance to most attractions and the Metro station for the south of Rome, both nights we ate locally as there are some very good restaurant within 5 mins of the hotel (check out trip advisor ;) ),
I cannot fault this hotel really apart from the astronomical mini bar prices ! 5 euros for a small soda, ridiculous, we have 2 small bottle of coke in the bar while waiting for the return trip and had to stump up 10 euros !

Room Tip: If booking a 7th floor Suite, ask for a room that is south facing, so you get the sun in the evening...

Never had been to Rome, always opting for Milan. Location was very good, in the heart of the city and centrally located to the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Vatican City, Piazza Navona and basically all the main tourist destinations.
Looks like its an older hotel that has been renovated to modern standards. Had a room with an alcove with a comfy sofa set, 2 large flat screen TV's, all good. Bed strangely was firmer than I would have liked.
Breakfast was good with hot and cold and all fresh and tasty. Rooftop has a bar/lounge with great views of that part of Rome. Apart from a bar on the ground floor, not much else in dining but with so much around you, who cares. Staff are helpful and pretty much all speak English which saved me much embarrassment in trying to speak Italian.
All in all, a good hotel in Rome

Room Tip: Take a high floor to avoid traffic noise

Excellent Location close to the Vatican. Nicely made up rooms. We had stayed in the Junior Suite and was enjoyable will unlimited internet only if booking done through the net. Indian restaurant Shanthi is at close proximity (Walking distance) serving both Indian/Pakistani dishes. Good breakfast selection at the basement.

Room Tip: Junior Suite is advisable (404)

Never judge a book by it's cover, from the exterior the Visconti Palace looks rather somber but step inside and you'll discover a modern ,clean, stylish hotel set in a great location with attentive staff.
We arrived two hours early on the day of our check in and the staff did their utmost to ensure the room was ready. We were even given a drink and mini chocolate eggs in reception whilst we waited in the uber trendy bar. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.... Everything you would want and more.
Our second day the sun shone and we ventured up to the roof terrace after a six hour day of sight seeing. We had the space to ourselves, we telephoned down to the bar and ordered cocktails. We couldn't ask for more, Cosmopolitans, olives, the sun shining and the city sounds of Rome rising from the streets below.
All in all an extremely enjoyable stay, we left with heavy hearts but a glint in our eyes as we'd all thrown a coin into the Trevi fountain assuring our return visit to Rome......... And most definitely we'll return to the Visconti Palace Hotel.

Room Tip: Triple room was fine... We stayed on level 5 and it was noisy but I expect that in a city centre.

A very well located hotel. Just across the river from most of the attractions of old Rome. Breakfast was included. A good location and room for the price. I think we paid $180 per night with everything included. The hotel didn't have a lot of charm, but was a good buy for the money.

We stayed 3 nights in a premier room, it was absolutely lovely, clean, newly and beautifully decorated, cleaning exceptional and the buffet breakfast was awesome - had everything anyone could want to eat, cereal, bacon, scrambled eggs, fruit, yogurt, pastries, breads/buns, cheeses, hams!!! The communal areas, ie the bar, outside terraces were great. The location was good, we did do a lot of walking and although we didn't find a lot of pubs/nightlife close to hand as they seemed to be on the other side of the river which we took a taxi to, lots of key monuments/architecture were just round a few corners. Overall, fabulous 3 nights away, and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had a premier room, never heard a thing at night, it was on the 6th floor and the 3 lifts to it w...
