We arrived at a narrow street where the hotel is. As we walked in we noted that the lobby is very small.

The lady at the reception checked us in, she was friendly and helpful. She then showed us our room. We normally carry our own luggages but the lady told us that someone would carry them up for us. As we were both exhausted after the long flight we weren't going to argue. As it turned out, the lift was so small that it wouldn't fit us and the luggages in at the same time anyway.

As the lift only goes up to the 2nd floor, we had to walk up to the 3rd floor where our room was. We had to walk through narrow corridor and staircase to reach our room. We were both thinking how small would the room be.

To our surprise, the room was clean and very spacious. One of the most spacious rooms we had during our entire trip.

We had drinks and dinner at the hotel one night. The bartender was friendly and the food was good but not great.

The hotel is not located where the actions are. That said, it's within walking distance to the Piazza di Spagna (the Spanish Steps) and Stazione Termini.

Overall a pleasant experience.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Oxford and plan to stay there again next time I visit Rome.

The staff were fantastic - all staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. All front desk and restaurant spoke English and were very patient when I tried to speak Italian! The rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily and each was air-conditioned with individual controls per room. My first room (I stayed for a week then came back a week later for a single night) looked into a courtyard whilst my second room was over the main entrance and, thanks to double glazing, both were very quiet and I wasn't aware of any street noise at all during my stay.

There was an excellent deal on as much internet and movie/tv access as you needed (12 euro for 24 hours). I was overseas on a research trip, so internet access was very important and other hotels I stayed at in Florence, London and Cardiff were very disappointing in this regard by comparison.

During my stay I ate in the restaurant and had room service and was very happy with both in terms of cost, presentation and qualiy. In fact, I stayed at Hotel Oxford for six nights in total and ate at the hotel every night of my stay.

The hotel itself is within walking distance from the train station (even with a massive suitcase) and served as a fantastic base. I walked everywhere during my week in Rome and, although Hotel Oxford isn't right in the middle of things, it wasn't difficult to get around on foot. Via Veneto was just down the street and it took about 10 to 15 minutes to meander to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The Vatican was about a 45 minute walk but that was with lots of stopping off to take photos, buy gelati, etc!

All in all, I loved staying at the Hotel Oxford and plan to return to Rome (and it) in early 2011. I would recommend it to anybody.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Oxford for four nights only in Sept 2009. We stayed in room 21 and the room was perfect for us. We had read reviews prior to booking which said the rooms are small. We found that the bed was enormous! which may make the room look smaller. We really had plenty of space and the facilities in the room were excellent. . The rooms were cleaned to a very high standard everyday and we felt relaxed and comfortable here. The meals are fine and the value is good. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. We used the hotel as a hub so that we could sightsee Rome and found it to be ideal. If you enjoy walking as we do you will see Rome in all its spendour and the attractions are not far away. The Spanish Steps is 15min walk. The Trevi fountain about 20min walk. The Colussium is 30min walk and the Vatican is a good 45min walk away. Rome is expensive and we found the cheapest draught beer was 5 euros for a 0.4litre glass. Obviously this is not even a pint. As 1 euro = 1 pound it was expensive. We found some places charged as much as 8 euros for the same drink. At the Vatican we found a place that sold a 0.8litre glass of draught beer (lager) and this was 13 euros. Food can also be expensive, we both had an omlette each with the trimmings added (chips & salad) and had to pay 15 euros each for these. Anyway that is the only negative side to Rome. We also had one pick-pocketing incident near the Colussium. We where coming down a twisted footpath opposite the attraction when two women, one pregnant tried to pick-pocket us. They work in pairs and try and distract you by asking you if you can give something for the unborn baby. She holds a piece of cardboard up against you and this covers up her friends act of trying to pick your pocket. We managed to get away unscathed but be aware, and be on your gaurd. We would certainly go back to Rome again but next time we would take more money. The hotel does have a safe in the room and we left all our valubles in here and only took out what you needed for that day. A good tip is to split your money between your front two pockets.

This was our second trip to the Hotel Oxford. It is set in a quiet location but is only minutes away from the busy Via Veneto. Nearby is the trevi fountain and the Piazza Barbarini( Which also has a Metro Station for the other destinations.) The room was lovely and the service was great. Everyone spoke English. We can't wait to go back!!

For people who don't like to walk too far, this hotel is slightly out of the way after a long day sightseeing, but is close enough not to make it a major problem. Room was fine, and spotlessley clean - it seems like the sheets were changed every day. Bathroom good, and a nice selection of toiletries. The bar area was comfy, but a bit dark, and service friendly. The only gripe we had about our entire stay here was the breakfast, which served stale rolls, and the cereal had been left out, it seemed for days - a bit chewy. We didn't try the dinner there, due to the fact it was served in a windowless room without much charachter, so couldn't comment on the quality, but there are five or six places a couple of hundred yards up the street to choose from. All in all, a good find, and will likely stay again.
