I booked this hotel about four weeks before our first ever trip to Rome through the Thomson website, choosing the hotel from a long list, mainly for its location and price, then booked and paid for flights separately. I didn't look on Tripadvisor before booking as the pictures and hotel website looked fine. A few days later I happened to be looking for something else and came across the Tripadvisor reviews! I was absolutely appalled and worried for the rest of the time before leaving. I even tried to cancel but it would have cost a fortune in fees. I'm so glad I didn't cancel - we arrived in pouring rain, the staff were really helpful and the room was clean, comfortable and much bigger than I would have expected for a city centre hotel. We were in 410 which looked out onto the back of the hotel, but at least we weren't facing the busy street, and after all we didn't come to Rome to look out of a hotel window. The location is fantastic, within easy walking distance of Trevi fountain, Spanish steps and close to Metro to reach other tourist sites. We had clean pillowcases on our bed and spotlessly clean towels in the bathroom EVERY day. The breakfast was good - the usual cereal, bread, ham, cheese and spreads but the cakes smelled scrumptious and seemed to be freshly baked each day. Coffee and tea was freely available and the staff would happily make cappucino or espresso if asked. I think the other reviewers must have stayed in a different hotel!
