I stayed in this hotel for a wedding. I wasn't sure what it was going to be like after reading some of the reviews.
The location was very good, very close to the Spanish steps and once I got my bearings, it was very easy to walk around all the sites. I got a single room which was ok, twin beds ensuite. The ensuite was old and the shower was tiny. The room was ok, not great but fine for a 3 night stay. My parents had a much nicer room with a veranda with table and chairs and a sun lounger and mini bar. My room had none of this. The lay out of the hotel isn't great either, hard with bags.
But the staff were very nice and helpful and I enjoyed myself.
If you're looking for a place to sleep in Rome that's affordable this is fine but it's not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination.

Was a bit apprehensive about the hotel after reading some reviews, but it was much better than expected.
The rooms were spacious and clean. Comfortable beds and adequate breakfast.
The receptionist, breakfast staff and cleaning staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
Although the rooftop terrace did not seem to be used much it was furnished with shades, tables and chairs and as the Hotel is so well placed for all the attractions of Rome it was assumed the people staying there were all out enjoying Rome.
There is not a bar as such but one may order a drinks at reasonable prices and it will be brought to you in the upstairs lounge. There is also a lovely clean bar and eating place a couple of doors away.

It is a couple of hundred metres to Barberini Piazza and the Metro and although we did not use the bus there is a stop a 100 metres away.

It is in easy walking distance of both the Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps and overall is an ideal place to stay for a few days in Rome and we would certainly use this Hotel again.

I booked this hotel about four weeks before our first ever trip to Rome through the Thomson website, choosing the hotel from a long list, mainly for its location and price, then booked and paid for flights separately. I didn't look on Tripadvisor before booking as the pictures and hotel website looked fine. A few days later I happened to be looking for something else and came across the Tripadvisor reviews! I was absolutely appalled and worried for the rest of the time before leaving. I even tried to cancel but it would have cost a fortune in fees. I'm so glad I didn't cancel - we arrived in pouring rain, the staff were really helpful and the room was clean, comfortable and much bigger than I would have expected for a city centre hotel. We were in 410 which looked out onto the back of the hotel, but at least we weren't facing the busy street, and after all we didn't come to Rome to look out of a hotel window. The location is fantastic, within easy walking distance of Trevi fountain, Spanish steps and close to Metro to reach other tourist sites. We had clean pillowcases on our bed and spotlessly clean towels in the bathroom EVERY day. The breakfast was good - the usual cereal, bread, ham, cheese and spreads but the cakes smelled scrumptious and seemed to be freshly baked each day. Coffee and tea was freely available and the staff would happily make cappucino or espresso if asked. I think the other reviewers must have stayed in a different hotel!

I should have known better. I read the reviews but after a 3 week trip in Italy, it was the only hotel in town that allowed for a one night stay (I returned to Rome to fly back to the US). I needed the room for less than 24hrs. My room was disgusting. There were black marks on the cloth covered walls from what I assume is years of cigarette smoke. See attached photos. The bed linens looked to be 30+ years old and the bed was saggy. I'm still surprised that I didn't get bed bugs. I should have taken more photos, but took these only to show a friend who recommended the hotel (in truth they said, "it's not great, but it'll do for one night."). I would have rather slept on a park bench. If I had not booked through Expedia (who charges your credit card immediately upon booking and does not give refunds) then I would have walked out after getting the keys. At the start of my trip I stayed several days at Hotel Centrale for which I also provided photos and a positive review. This hotel is not worth 1 star let alone 3 stars. Do NOT stay here!
