We stayed at Hotel Scott House near the Termini in Rome. Our stay at this establishment was the worst part of the trip. We wanted something reasonably priced with basics; for the most part, that is the Scott House. However, during our three-day stay, two of the basics were not met--there was no hot water for showers and the internet service was only good if you had your own computer as their guest computer was said to be either not working or locked in the breakfast room which was open only during breakfast. The breakfast was nice. I wouldn't write a poor review on these two problems alone as I try not to let such things upset my travels. It was the check out that was a total nightmare and that coupled with the above problems, brings me to writing a poor experience complaint; at check out, they overcharged and refused to amend even after I showed them the email (hard copy) confirmations that I carried with me. After an hour of arguing and trying to get them to live up to their agreement, I left paying the overcharged amount. Further because of this dispute, we missed our train to Florence which had to be rebooked, etc. I would not recommend the Hotel Scott House to anyone.

The hotel was clean, friendly and central. It cost us €60 per night for the room and that included breakfast for two, breakfast was a continental breakfast of coffee, fruit juice, croissant and toast and spread.
It is a budget hotel and it charged us budget prices and the staff were GREAT.

I thought the hotel was terrible, but the most awful part is that I was paying 100 euros a night for it. I've stayed in 2 star hotels in major European cities before--Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva--and had better rooms for half the price.

My experience involved three rooms: 402, 403, and 404. We were with my parents who were in 402. We were given 403, but asked to be switched and got 404.

402: It was sparse. The only furniture was a bed, 2 night stands, and a built in closet with a bar so high my average-height mom couldn't hang her clothes up. There was no rug on the floor, and the floors were not particularly clean (the sheets and towels were clean at least). The "queen bed" was 2 twin beds pushed together. There was not even a toilet paper holder in the bathroom. The toilet is uncomfortably close to the wall.

403: The worst hotel room I've ever seen. The bathroom is arranged such that a person over 5'3" couldn't possibly find room to sit on the toilet, your knees would hit the wall. There was mold growing on the wall above the shower, lots of it. Again, the "queen bed" was 2 twins. No rug and again dirty floors. There was a desk in this room. Again, no toilet paper holder.

404: The best one out of the three, but not enjoyable to stay there. The queen bed was an actual queen. No rugs, dirty floors. Furnished more than the other rooms--bed didn't look like a prison cot, there was a place to put luggage, a wardrobe, a desk. The bathroom was not clean. It was covered in soap scum and felt slimy. The shower curtain was brown at the bottom and looked filthy. The shower doesn't drain well, and if you take a shower it's very easy to flood not only the bathroom, but half the room in the process. At least you could sit on the toilet, but again, no toilet paper holder. This room also got a lot of noise from the street.

In all the rooms, the television is extremely tiny and too high to reach by hand. A remote control will cost you a 20 euro deposit. Air conditioner cannot be controlled by the guest; you have to call the front desk and ask them to turn it on/off. There is wireless internet, though.

Staff: The staff running the front desk were extremely polite and helpful. No problem there whatsoever. The breakfast staff was very rude.

Breakfast: Pathetic. Croissant + coffee. Right next door there's a cafe that sells the same thing for 1.50 euro.

If you MUST be right by the train station, stay across the street for about 30 euro a night more. In town (and closer to attractions) much better deals can be found.

We stayed here for one night only and couldn't wait to get out of there. I booked a budget room as we were arriving at 10pm and had to leave first thing in the morning. In retrospect we would've been better off paying and extra $30 for a decent room.

The location is 3 mins from Termini Station, but on the dodgy south side. Staff were pleasant enough, however the room was so atrocious we couldn't sleep. The minute we walked in the smell of mould was overwhelming, There is no ventilation in the bathroom and we could see visible mould growing all over it. I wore thongs (flip-flops) in the shower out of fear of catching something and we were too scared to eat the breakfast that was included for fear of the hygiene standards. Save yourself the pain and spend a tiny bit more! Your lungs will thank you!

we stayed in a quad room from 5th / 9th sep 2009.

location is simply great - the staff is friendly .... we spent very little time in the room but if someone is planning to relax .... he must look for another option.

generally we had a good experience as we were 4 friends ..... for a family .... one could think otherwise ......

a great value for money option at a strategic location ......
