San Francisco Bay Area

The location of this hotel is the best part--we liked that it was close to the termini station. This was convenient when we were coming in from the airport as well as during our stay. Rome has an A and B line and the termini station is at the crossroads so you can basically go any way the underground goes without having to transfer. We didn't feel unsafe at all (we accidently missed the last metro car one night and had to walk all teh way back and felt way safer here than we would in our native San Francisco).

The room was definitely small (smaller than it appears on the website) but my husband and I didn't spend much time in the room anyway. It was a bit noisy but we got used to it by our second or third night.

The staff was very friendly and although the breakfast was minimal, they provided great service while you ate. They were very welcoming when we arrived and very accommodating with any requests. We stayed here at teh beginning and end of our trip. At the end, they had overbooked the hotel so they sent us across the street to another nicer hotel (Hotel Aphrodite?). While it was slightly inconvenient to have to move, the staff at both hotels made it as easy as possible.

My biggest concern when staying at a hotel is cleanliness and this hotel was definitely clean.

Basic, definitely no luxury; good for student groups

I stayed at the Hotel Scott House for 7 nights on April 2008 as a member of a student group. I think this hotel is very good for larger groups who don't intend to spend much time in their rooms - you can get really cheap prices at this hotel if you are ready to share a small room with many people.
I was staying in a room with 4 other girls and although there wasn't much space to move from our beds we were quite happy with our room.

The staff was very friendly and spoke good English. Breakfast wasn't wonderful, but it was sufficient and the staff in the breakfast room was very friendly and helpful, ready to pour you more coffee the minute you emptied your cup. Rooms were clean, new fluffy towels were brought every day and the sheets changed. Although the street where the hotel is is quite noisy our room, at least, was very quiet and peaceful.

The location is very good, maybe a minute from the main railway-, metro- and bus station Termini. The area is real tourist trap though, so be prepared to meet lots of street vendors, some of which might be quite insistent. I don't think the area was particularly seedy or dangerous though, as some have said in their reviews. I felt quite safe walking in the streets near the hotel with my girl friends, also late at night.

Downsides were the elevator (made horrible, scary noise and was very slow) and the thin walls - when we were standing in our shower we could hear our friends' conversation in the room next door.

Overall I think that this hotel was good value for money and I'll definitely stay there again when I next go to Rome.

For the cheap price you pay the rooms are fine, double room 2 beds ensure a little bit of space insead of a single room. Overheating meant had to sleep with windows open and its very noisy outside, but the central location next to Termini is why you come here, night buses are handy and good links to airport. Rooms vere clean bathroom functional but small, beds comfortable...even had wifi. If you are not going to spend much time in a hotel and more time with the marvellous splendours of Rome then this otel is perfect for you. Location is also a downpoint as the area is a area of frequent comings and goings and beggers and probably drug dealers, but this is a capital city...if you come from London, Paris this won't be a problem for you, vut might be if you come from a small town.

Our family of 4 adults stayed here last year. We returned after my husband and myself had an enjoyable stay with Scott House the previous year. But this time we were very dissappointed due to the size of the room for 4 adults plus luggage, not enough pillows and it was an issue to get some more. Mattresses did not fit the beds, breakfast very average and the same every day. The male breakfast server not pleasant, and the reception girl was pleasant until we asked for more pillows. Location to the termini is good and also good to the main locations, but next time we will go elsewhere.

  • Liked — location to termini
  • Disliked — staff unpleasant, room size and comfort

We stayed in Rome for four nights at the beginning of our Italian adventure, and another two at the end. Scott House Hotel Rome is in a very good location, and is value for money - it's easy walking around Rome from this location, and is literally 1or 2 minutes walk from the main railway station. However we were given two completely different rooms on each occasion. On our first four nights here, the room was generous in size, the bed reasonably comfortable (though made from two singles - this appears to be normal in budget hotels) and the bathroom adequate. We stayed on the first floor of the hotel, which is the 4th floor of the building. On our return to the hotel, we were given a room on the 5th floor of the building (second floor of the hotel). This room was completely different from the first, though the same price was paid. It was definitely a lot smaller. The two mattresses the double bed was made up from were completely different in height and softness, and they separated from each other multiple times during the night. The shower in the bathroom was missing a portion of it's door and the water sprayed out from the side of the shower head and pretty much everwhere.
We didn't complain as we were too tired and just wanted to enjoy our last two days in Rome without too much fuss, but the quality between the rooms is obviously varied.
I would stay here again if I could be guaranteed a room on the 4th floor of the building, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was adequate.

  • Liked — the location, friendly staff and wifi access
  • Disliked — variable qualities of rooms
