I have stayed at Hotel Emmaus a half a dozen times from 2000 until this year. It is a wonderful place to stay in Rome as it is right off St. Peter's Square. I have brought sisters, students, friends and family here with great success. It is truly an Italian hotel. It is not a Marriott, if you are looking for that, stay in the USA. To really experience Rome, go to the Emmaus.

I booked this hotel to be walking distance from Vatican for the Xmas midnight mass. Could not have chosen any closer. Can see Vatican from front door of hotel - just a 5 minute walk. Good tourist class hotel, rooms were clean. Our room at the rear meant it was peacefully quiet - hard to believe you were in Rome so ideal for a good nights sleep. The restaurant 'Il Postiglione 3' across the road serves excellent italian food with friendly service. Hotel staff were helpful and would definately stay again if going back to Rome. I'd recommend the hotel for anyone wanting a quiet location, walking distance of the Vatican and is not too fussed by luxury hotel trimmings.

We chose this hotel for location and it was a nice stay. We enjoyed the proximity to the Vatican. The cleanliness and breakfast was average on the scale. The location and hospitality were well above average. Our party stayed in two rooms. The room on the interior was rather triangle shaped but adequate, the exterior room was on a busy street that became active very early. We advise requesting the interior rooms for a pleasant stay.

Location of this hotel is great. Just a few steps to St. Peter's Square. Parking is a challenge but we finally found a parking garage. As for our room, we were dumped out the back door. We then had to walk past the laundry room and up a very narrow steep flight of stairs to where there was a single door. Our view was of another window across the alley. The room was tiny but seemed clean enough. The bathroom however had mold all around the shower. The toilet worked on and off. There was no hot water whatsoever. The A/C was turned off and it took some talking to try to get the breaker turned back on. The breakfast buffet was ok. There was a good restaurant next door where the service staff was excellent and the food was good. Luckily, we just slept in the room as we were walking around the rest of the time. If you want to spend any time in the room, I wouldn't suggest this hotel.

My wife and I have just got back from our trip to Europe. We stayed in Rome for 4 nights at this hotel. Unless you are on a tight budget, we would not recommend it. Our room was small and very dated. This property has not been updated in many, many years. The photos on the hotels website are a bit misleading. The wallpaper was peeling off and although the room was basically clean, it was a bit grubby. The bed (which took up virtually all of the floor space) was as hard as rock. Breakfast was included in the room price (85 Euros) and was good.

The location is pretty good, but a bit of a walk to the main vatican areas, on the opposite side from the Museum, etc. It is very close to St. Peters Square and the Basilica though. It would be worth paying a little more and being on the other side of the square, where everything is closer. To get to the vatican you have to go through an underpass with some interesting people, but seemed pretty safe. The bus passes by the hotel and goes directly to the Termini, which is handy. The same bus takes you to many other parts of the centre as well.

The location limits your dining options near the hotel. The restaurant just up the street (turn right out the hotel door, first place on the right) is pretty good. The food was fresh, tasty and the service is good and unhurried. The price is pretty good too. About 80 to 100 Euros for a full dinner with wine and drinks (for two people). The place directly across the street is terrible (unless you like microwaved pasta and store-bought sauces). The other bars across the street are pretty good for a snack and a beer/wine.
