just back from a four night trip to lovely Rome...pity about the hotel though. I booked it for its historical interest, being a 15th century building so I wasn't expecting modern decor, however, I did expect more than I got or was led to believe I'd get. The room was dark, dreary, depressing and not somewhere I'd want to spend much time. The ensuite was an obvious afterthought and looked as if it had been decorated a few centuries ago. The older couple travelling with us had a bath with a hand held shower! The four person lift was out of action for one day which didn't help the 75 year olds as we were on the third floor. As the older couple would be spending time in the hotel, I figured the downstairs bar serving snacks would be good for them except it was never open. Facilities listed on the site through which I made the booking never existed! On a positive note, the air conditioning worked and the cleaners could not be faulted. The restaurant was the best feature with its high ceiling and frescoed walls. Columbus is billed as a 4 star hotel - whoever is responsible for that fairytale should come to Ireland to see what a 4 star hotel actually looks like.
