“I loved this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Last time we stayed in Rome 3 years ago we stayed at Rezidenza Cellini and because they didn't reply to my email this year we chose the Hotel Artemide. What a great decision! We were welcomed by very helpful English speaking staff who always spoke to us as we passed by Reception. We stayed in a suite that met all our needs. Very comfortable with a free mini bar replenished daily. We also received a complimentary bottle of wine, 2 complimentary glasses of Prosecco in the roof terrace bar/restaurant and a personalised welcome note that I thought was a nice touch. The jacuzzi bath was great after each day of exploring the city and the bed was huge and comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the bustling Via Nazionale although even with the doors closed, some traffic noise could be heard. Bus stops and the metro station are very close and make it easy to get around. The food in the restaurant was lovely and so we ate there on both nights of our stay. Breakfast was so good I could have stayed in all day just eating - what a great selection of foods. The worst thing about the hotel was having to leave. I wish I could have stayed much longer. Highly recommended. A big thank-you to all the staff for making our stay such a pleasant one.

All I can say is that I would recommend and return to this hotel without hesitation. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and informative.

We have eaten in the restaurant twice and I would absolutely recommend it. When asked for recommendations for a meal outside the hotel, the place we were given was fantastic. Finally, breakfast was great and is also a great opportunity to see how difficult people can be when in a foreign country to their own (well done the breakfast team)

Checking out tomorrow and we will return

Tony and Nik

Room Tip: Fourth floor room, no issues

This hotel has many reviews that seem to make it out as an excellent luxury hotel, but only by European standards. We found the hotel to have a great location with a very short walk to the Metro. Good shopping in the local area. Staff was very good and helpful in all cases. Room was incredibly and uncomfortably small, as we were coming off a long cruise and had many bags which quickly filled the room. Very limited storage spaces for any clothes, so essentially lived out of a suitcase. Bathroom was nice but no counter space for the many items just two of us used. Mini-bar was replenished daily, but not much to write home about. A few snacks, a couple of beers and sodas and water - no hard liquor. Ice for the room was a serious problem at this hotel - no ice buckets in the room, only ice machine was on first floor in the workout room, and only paper cups were available to take the ice to your room. Room service wanted to charge 5 euros to bring up a bucket of ice! This really made us feel like we were staying at a Motel 6 in the states! Very good complimentary Wi-Fi available. Complimentary newspaper only arrived on 2 of our 4 nights. Breakfast was also very good, as was the business center. Maybe we had the only bad room in the hotel, but we found this hotel to be extraordinarily expensive for the value received.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from Via Nazionale to avoid street noise.

Dear Sir,

We are sorry to learn that your experience in our establishment has not been up to your standards.

Having found out that you had many issues during your stay, we would like to address them so that our future Guests may have a clearer view of our Property and Service.

First of all we feel the necessity to explain the term “luxury”. As you well pointed out, luxury may vary in concept and style depending on the region and country one travels to. It is quite clear to us who work in the field that the US market offers very different concepts of luxury hotels compared to European and Italian ideas. Probably due to the availability of spaces and modern facilities and cities, American Hotels tend to have the possibility to offer larger accommodations than European ones. However, it is clear that when choosing a European destination, Guests should already be informed that hotels in the two countries offer very different accommodations. Especially in an ancient city such as Rome, travelers come to experience history and beauty of 2000 years old. Luxury is also this. Our Hotel fully fits all the requisites to have 4 stars awarded. Furthermore, we even offer facilities which a hotel in our category rarely makes available; for example the gym and the restaurant. Furthermore, and this is something that our 2000+ reviewers have underlined many times, what really distinguishes our establishment is our Service. We believe that a hotel may be as luxurious looking as possible but if the Staff and the attention given to the Guests are not of high standards than there is no point in having a nice package with a bad gift inside. We think that most of our Guests agree and share our opinion.

Cleared out this fundamental point, we would like to address the other complains.

Rooms: from your words we have understood that you had booked a Small or Economy room. Please note that among the many room categories that we offer, these are the smallest ones. All are fully described on our selling websites, including size and services available, and show pictures of the rooms and bathrooms. One of our strong Service points and policies is to give a truthful image of our Hotel and Rooms. We have no intention of selling our Guests something that is fake and completely different to what we really have. Furthermore all rooms have a wardrobe to store one’s belongings. However, we do understand that Guests coming for a longer stay might require more space; this is why we also offer alternative storage where Guests may leave the suitcases which are not required during their stay. As for the location of the rooms, these may be found on both the back and the front of the Hotel. Rooms are assigned on the day of arrival, however all further information given at the time of booking may help our receptionists to assign the best room for your requirements. Having known that you preferred a quieter room they would have assigned you one facing the inner courtyard.

Bathroom: as for the rooms, our websites also show an image of the bathrooms. These tend to be proportioned in size to the rooms, therefore by booking a Small room it is inferable that bathrooms should come in the same size if not smaller. As for the shelf space we fully understand that Guests will need some, this is why all bathrooms are equipped with it.

Private Bar: please be aware that all our private bar content is free for our Guests. We offer a variety of snacks, soft drinks and some beer cans; all replenished daily. Adding a free private bar, which is normally extremely expensive, gives our Guests just a small something to make them enjoy more their stay. We understand that some people might prefer a more “classical” approach to private bars which include super alcoholics like vodka, gin and whisky; this is why we also offer the possibility to request these drinks via our Room Service with a charge.

Ice: first of all we would like to underline the fact that most hotels, even of our same star category, do not offer a free ice machine available 24h a day. We are always attentive to our Guests’ needs and having, among others, American Guests, we certainly know their love for ice. This is why we have decided to provide an ice machine for free. Said this, please note that the fact that you have paid 5.00 Euros for ice through Room Service is not correct. As well written on the menu, al Room Service orders come with a 5.00 Euro charge, and this does not vary according to the order. As far as we are aware, normal service charges apply in hotels throughout the world, therefore should not really come as a surprise.

Newspaper: free newspapers are always delivered daily on request. Kindly note that your period of stay was during a public holiday; therefore no newspapers, even Italian ones, were printed. Furthermore, on Saturday and Sunday international newspapers have the same copy printed, reason why you received only one paper during the weekend. Alternatively, Guests may read the updated news on the screen just in front of the breakfast room or in the business centre where it is also possible to print copies.

Conclusively we would like to apologize for you discomfort, however we would also like to underline the fact that a solution could have been found to all your issues. We cannot but stress once more that the most important goal for us is our Service. This comes in all sorts of forms; from providing a free private bar, to offering free bathroom toiletries. Having known about your distress it would have been our outmost care to find any possible solution or at least give you an explanation which could make you understand the situation and not leave you with such a bad memory of your experience with us. Our staff is always ready to listen and it is glad to go the extra mile to give you an enjoyable stay.

Such a brilliant hotel, it was excellent in terms of: location, comfort, staff and general ambience. Where it really moves ahead of the competition is the breakfast, a stunning high quality range from fresh fruit to cakes (watch out for the ricotta round, delicious) and the free mini-bar. You get free water, still and sparkling, fruit juice, biscuits, nuts and beer! It makes a real difference. Great shops nearby and 5 minutes from the railway terminus. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you're at the front (road side) try to get higher up to avoid road noise, though the windows...

Hotel was exactly what we were looking for - great location, excellent room and superior service. Or daughter joined us unexpectedly (she was studying in Italy) and the staff upgraded us to a larger room for same price. They also overheard us discussing our train plans and left us a note letting us know about a train strike which affected our plans. The rooftop restaurant was one of the best meals we had in Italy! The breakfast was also top notch. I would definitely return to this hotel.

A wedding anniversary trip to Rome & this hotel proved to be the perffect location for exploring as well as for R&R.

Room was large & extremely well provided for with a mini bar full of free goodies that were replenished every day.

Buffet breakfast was very good when compared to many european offerings. Really set one up for the day.

Sadly the Englsh rain followed us to the eternal city, but the mazing staff were offering guests complimentary use of umbrellas before we even reached the front door...... to the annoyance of the miriad umbrella hawkers on the streets!

Easy walking distance to many attractions & the nearest metro is just up the road. Also plentiful bus services up & down the Via Nazzionale, although they do get VERY crowded.

If we were returning to Rome we wouldn't look anywhere else!
