We booked this hotel through airmiles. We were concerned because previous reviews mentioned building works so I contacted the hotel in advance and was assured that we would not be disturbed. This proved to be so. Although the building work continues it is completely screened from the bedrooms and public areas and we heard no noise at all. Our room faced the street and had a small balcony. The decor was a bit tired except for the shower room which although small was beautifully fitted and very glamorous. The location is a bit Colleseum and San Giovanni in Laterno as well as the metro. Buses for the centro storico stop right outside the hotel. The breakfast room has great views over Rome.

We stayed at the Piccadilly for 3 nights to do the usual Rome tourist trip. We chose it because it seemed good value and pretty well reviewed here. When we arrived we asked for a quieter room at the back - as per advice from other TA members. We were given a 2nd floor room at the back. At 6.30 the next morning we were woken by the sounds of hammering, clattering and loud conversation. Looking out of our window we discovered that we were basically staying in a builders yard (we had arrived in the dark - in every sense) The hydraulic lift for materials was just outside our window. Why give us a room like this - did they expect us to say nothing?
We asked for a change of room and luckily one was available at the front so we had to repack and move. The next people at reception were also requesting a room change. We then discovered the hotel was full of notices apologising 'to our dear guests for the refurbishment work'
This of course is a real dilemna for hotels - do they close up or keep going and upset the guests? We booked the hotel through Airmiles who say that they were unaware of the works. I would have liked to have known beforehand - we would not have stayed here.
On a positive note the new room had an excellent bathroom and was comfortable. The breakfast room is very bright with excellent staff and great views.
If you really are in to eating out this is not the best area. There are a few reasonable restaurants but not much choice (I'Corsari kindly recommended by a previous reviewer is now a Barclays Bank!)
Getting around is pretty easy. The metro is fairly close by. The general area is pretty uninteresting, though San Giovanni in Laterano is walkable.
This will be a very pleasant hotel - when they've finished the 'works'

Just spent 2 nights at the Piccadilly with a group of travel and tourism students. Safe location with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to visit. Excellent value for money. Facilities clean, fab bathrooms. I had a room overlooking the city, fantastic views. Must mention the reception staff Monica and Amedeo who were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Ideal hotel.

I have just returned from 3 nights at the Picadilly and have to say it is a very comfortable and well located tourist hotel. It is located no more than 5-10 minutes from San Giovanni metro station on the very busy Via Magna Grecia. The area feels very safe as the vast majority of residents are local, I could not see any other hotels in the area.

The room is functional and clean, they are in the process of refurbishing the hotel, the room had all the amenities you would expect, a decent bathroom, towels are provided, TV, mini bar. The windows are double glazed which allowed a good night's sleep. The Via Magna Grecia is a busy and noisy road (even at night) why do the Italians love their car horns so much. The only slight downside was the lift, very slow and at breakfast time it took what seemed like ages to arrive at your floor empty, as it only takes 3 people.

Breakfast is in a 8th floor dining room with a great view over the city, you can just about make out the top of the Colosseum and St Peters is clearly visible. The buffet breakfast offers a good variety of options, I found the scrammbled eggs and bacon very good.

If you need to temporarily stow your luggage after checking out there is a free room available for the purpose.

We found the staff fantastic, they all spoke very good English and were most helpful especially when explaining the excellent public transport to us. Bus 87 stops directly opposite and takes you to the Colosseum and terminates not too far a walk from the Vatican, the 360 takes you to Termini railway station. They did recomend a restaurant, its menu being displayed in reception, best avoided, we found it poor in all aspects. I can thopugh highly recomend 'l Corsari' ,turn right from the main doors and the restaurant is on the other side of the road about 100 yards away. We ate there twice, the quality is excellent and the waiting staff are very hellpful, the restaurant is frequented mainly by the locals so the prices aren't a rip-off.

All in all we found it a perfect base to see the sites, the traffic noise is the only consideration - maybe a room on the opposite side to the Via Magna Grecia would be quieter. Thanks to the wonderful staff the Hotel Picadilly is a great place to stay.
