This hotel perfectly adequate for any short stay in Rome. It would have been quite hard to find though had we not pre-booked transfers from/to Ciampino (€35 e/w and the best idea by far if only a short break). The hotel is quaint, rustic and is very clean (rooms, bedding, towels etc). It is situated in a kind of back street but, this only makes it more fitting to its surroundings! TIP--try and avoid rooms ending '06' as we had an awful view of a 10' x 10' square consisting of 4 concrete walls and windows all around right up to the top of the building about 5 floors high, hardly any sunlight at all, but, this turned out to be a blessing if honest due to the heat!
The hotels is a 5-10 minute walk to the Colloseum and Forums, both of which are out of this world, a 15 minute walk to Termini Station (one stop on the underground, 'Cavour' which is a 2 minute walk and €1 for a 75 minute ticket). It is a15 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain and 20-25 minutes to the Spanish Steps. The rest of the sights can be reached by walking (in COMFY shoes!) but we found the best way to get around was to do the open top bus tour '110' from Termini Station, it cost €18 for 24 hours and €24 for 48 hours (the 48 hour ticket includes a trip to the Catacombs off the map). The 48 hour ticket we used all day long and did the tour both during the day and at night, 2 very different experiences. We also used the tickets as general transport too which was a godsend.
Back to the hotel, the reception staff were very helpful and charming and remembered my name everytime I went there, the breakfast is basic, bread, cheese, ham, salami, muffins, scrambled egg, bacon drinks and fruit but, it is fine. Awesome coffee! Don't be afraid of using the bar in your room, it cost us €1.80 for a can of Coke, about the same price as in the shops.
The hotel is small yes, but that makes it more personal and welcoming. There is an Irish pub right accross the alley which was a nice wind down at the end of a long day, there is a lovely pizza take-away place 2 minutes away on Via Cavour and supermarkets, souvenier shops and bars/restaurants are all easily within walking distance.
We would stay there next time we go to Rome, no question.
I will add photos asap.

The hotel is a small boutiquey property off a main road just a few blocks from the colosseum. Location wise, it is not central, but still convenient to the train station (tip...take the one-stop subway ride if you're loaded down with luggage and the weather is warm...it's not as close as it seems to Termini Station), Roman Forum, Colosseum, National Museum and other sites. To get to other popular piazzas, sites, etc, you'll have to put on your walking shoes.

Best advice: Avoid rooms ending in "03." My room was adjacent to the elevator shaft. It wasn't the traffic that was bothersome or the noise of opening and closing doors, it was the noise from cables, pulleys and other technical things that kept knocking and pinging inside the walls and through my drop ceiling. After first blaming noisy neighbors, then construction in the building next door (receptionist reassured me there was no construction going on and especially none at 7 a.m.) I finally realized it was coming from the elevator shaft. I told management that I figured out the noise, but was only met with an "ok." Although I was disappointed by the reaction, I honestly didn't ask to be moved so I'm not sure what they could have done. Thankfully, I brought ear plugs and went to bed late at night when the elevator wasn't getting as much use.

Note, if you face the street, you will hear noise from the gelato store, restaurant, and Irish pub all within 25 feet from the hotel's entrance. Again, my earplugs helped.

My single bed room was small. Probably smaller than any place I've tried in New York. The small, single bed took about 1/3 of the space in the main room. Other space was taken by a standing wall cabinet (no drawers), a tv mounted to the wall, some floor space for your luggage stand and to walk, and a phone stand and cube sized seat. The bathroom leaves little room between the sink, toilet and bidet. In fact, you really need to walk sideways to get from the shower stall to the sink.

Breakfast was fine. Eggs, fruit, coffee, meats, etc are available in its very small dining area. You may have to wait for a table.

  • Liked — I think the 78 Euro cash cost made it worthwhile. It is definitely cheaper to book directly with the hotel than to use an internet booking service.
  • Disliked — Noise and size of room. Perhaps the other rooms are more comfortable and larger.

I loved this hotel. The staff are very friendly and very helpful with any request. I particularly like Danilo, tell him I say hello! Their English is superb, even the lady serving breakfast will understand what you're saying.

It's easy to get to from Termini, about 10 minutes walk which is ok. The location is great for walking around the city, it's really easy to find your way back after a day out. It's so close to the Colosseo, and the forum is just up the road.

Our room was reasonably sized, clean, with satellite tv and a good sized bathroom. The shower was very good. Our towels were replaced daily and someone came in for a tidy up in the day too. the window with shutters looked out upon the cobbled street and you could easily watch life go by from that side of the hotel. The interior of the hotel is nice, really well decorated.

Breakfast was pretty basic but I could still fill up. Even as a vegetarian. There's meat and cheese of which I didn't partake, but there is a variety of sweet or savoury bakery products, including croissants and chocolate breads, as well as fruit and juice. The coffee is fantastic.

There's a lovely little restaurant at the end of the road called Wanted. We ate their twice, no funny business, just good food at good prices. Round the corner is a more upmarket restaurant which serves good food, though they don't understand if you don't like Parmesan!

Up Via Serpentini, literally 2 minutes walk away, is the most fantastic gelaterie. They have so many flavours and they're all divine. We found this to be better than any other in the city, and we tried a lot of ice cream.

I can't speak highly enough of Duca D'Alba, we didn't know what to expect as we ordered the whole lot through Expedia, but we knew straight away we'd hit the jackpot.

Stay here, and just as importantly, go to Rome, it's a dream.

We had a great time at this hotel. It's easy to find from the airport...you can take a taxi for ~45 euros or take the train/metro. There are two options by rail. The first option is to take the Leonardo express from the airport to Termini station, then transfer to the Metro B line to Cavour. The other option is taking the FM1 (aka FR1) train from the airport to Ostiense, then transferring via the underground walkway to the Metro B line at Piramide. Cavour is the third stop from Piramide. We took FM1 because it was half the cost of the Express/Termini option (6.5 euros compared to ~13 euros). We were also traveling during off peak hours and not during tourist season, so the trains were not crowded. Also, if you are heading NE on the Metro B line towards Rebibbia, the Cavour metro stop exits onto Via Leonina, just a very short, direct walk to the hotel. If you are heading S/SW on the Metro B line towards Laurentina, the metro exits onto the East side of Cavour and you will have to walk up and over Cavour to arrive at Via Leonina (Via Leonina sits below the street level of Cavour).

The staff at the hotel was very friendly. The breakfast was pretty good (bacon, eggs, bread, coffee) as well. The rooms were small, but normal for Europe. Our room contained a mini fridge, safe, and small balcony. The bed was very firm, but I had no trouble sleeping at night. The bathroom had a hair dryer and stand up shower.

If you are in decent shape, you can walk to just about any location in Rome from this hotel, but the Metro will give you easier access to the Vatican, Spanish Steps, and Villa Borghese.

It was amazing to walk to the end of Via Leonina and see the Colosseum in the distance to the left and the Church of Santa Maria ai Monti right in front of you. If you walk up up the steps next to the Irish pub, cross Cavour, then walk up another set of steps, you will be at St. Pietro in Vincoli.

There is a Gelateria/dessert shop across from the hotel entrance (http://www.ciuri-ciuri.it/ciuriciuri.php). Just down the street from the hotel is a nice chocolate shop (http://www.labottegadelcioccolato.it/collaborazioni.asp) There are also many places to dine along Leonina, Cavour, Serpenti, and Panisperna. Piazza Madonna dei Monti (http://travel2.nytimes.com/2006/05/28/travel/28surfacing.html?fta=y) contains a cafe, market, and other eating establishments. There is also a grocery store on Via Cavour, just before the metro stop.

We did not have any noise issues from the Irish pub (http://www.finneganpub.com/FindUs.htm) mentioned in other reviews, but we were on the opposite end of the hotel.

Overall, we had an excellent time on our first trip to Rome.

Booked the hotel after reading glowing reviews on tripadvisor. Contacted the hotel directly and got a good deal - a discount (only for cash payment) with a bottle of wine thrown in, which was nice.
Reached the hotel in the early afternoon and it was stuffy. I do not know if this is a problem with their air-conditioning or just a common practice in Italy where they do not use much air con, cos alot of the shops/cabs do not on their air cons despite the heat.
I booked a superior room, which was supposed to be more roomy and comfy, but it was really tiny. Bathroom is also tiny but still decent. Air con cannot be adjusted and bathroom stinks abit. Room was abit noisy at nite cos of the resturants/bars nearby.
Location is great to view the ancient sights. We took a walk after dinner nearby and saw the Coloseum at nite, which was awesome. There's a roman bath ruins nearby too. Metro just right infront, Cavour station.
Overall, decent for a night sleep, if you are not looking into something fancy. Staff is friendly and helpful but the chambermaid can be abit too familiar...she opened the door with just one knock, without waiting for a response.
