Stayed for 6 nights at the Lirico hotel, and can honestly say that I fell in love with the hotel (and Rome)... Location is flawless; not too far from Termini, but not too close to the busy bus terminus and main road... Though found the metro station at Piazza Republic to be better (which is also closer to hotel). Literally 1 minute away from the beautiful Via Nazzionale.
Best thing about the hotel is the reception staff (Tony, Emiliano, and Chan) who made our stay wonderful. If Tony asks you if you want a restaurant recommendation, say yes, believe me, he'll tell you about a great restaurant close by that we ended up going to nearly every day. Reception staff are also extremely helpful and nice to talk to. To get to the reception area there are some stairs, but if you're the type that loves travelling for a whole day around the city viewing different landmarks, then a few stairs wont tire you down.
The rooms are very clean, and surprisingly spacious. Bathroom was also really good and well stocked to nice towels, soaps, etc... Room had a really good A/C and nice big windows. offers a reasonably good buffet breakfast (boiled eggs, ham, yogurt, cheese, buns, pastries, fresh fruit, juices, cereal, milk, jams), breakfast room was on the small side, but always found a table...
Hotel offers a comfortable hotel transfer service from Fiumicino airport for 50 euros. Had found loads of hotels in Rome before choosing this one, and Lirico just seemed to be perfect compared to a lot of the other hotels in Rome, and it is. Would definitely recommend and if I had to go back to Rome, I'd love to stay there again.
Rome is also breath taking, a definite must-go at least once in a lifetime. Didn't experience any criminal activities what-so-ever. Would also recommend to anyone planning on going there to try and go either early summer (May, June) or end of Summer (September), since the weather was just right, and would be less crowded then in the middle of summer. Most helpful buses were no40 and 64 mainly.
