Hotel Lirico is in a good location and within walking distance to the train station. The street is nice and not too busy with traffic. The hotel is located next to the Teatro dell'Opera, Rome's Opera House. Most of the historic sites are within walking distance and there is a Metro stop nearby.
Most of the staff can speak English and all were helpful. However, at check-in, the desk clerk tried to charge me 5% more unless I paid cash, so make sure you have confirmation documentation with you. You also have to ask for the Rome map, tour guide and welcome drinks that are promised. Wi-Fi access is provided in the room.
The room and bathroom were very clean and well decorated. The room size was small for three people, although I understand that this is typical for the price I paid. It was unusually hot during our trip and unfortunately the air conditioner broke. Since it was the weekend, it couldn't be fixed until Monday. Staff gave us a fan to use and the nights were cool, so it was pretty comfortable. But, with the window open, it was kind of noisy and I got some mosquito bites. At check-out I asked for a discount for the inconvenience of no air conditioning for three nights and 50 Euros was taken off my bill.
The breakfast was very good - European continental. All hot drinks - café, coffee, cappuccino, etc. - were served at the table. The breakfast area was a little small but not overcrowded. We had a very nice waiter/porter. He was always pleasant and helpful. He even tried to fix the air conditioner for us.
All in all, for a three star hotel in Rome and the price we paid, we were very satisfied. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
