We booked our room over telephone. When we arrived, the desk clerk took our passports and a credit card. We were shown to our room. We stayed about 15 minutes. It was noisy, dingy, and had a bad smell coming from a vent. We decided not to stay, but the manager would not refund our money; he said we had "used" the room because we admitted to sitting in chairs! Incredible. We filed a complaint with the nearest TI office. They were shocked at the rates and at our treatment. The Tirreno manager said we had to come back later and talk to his superior. We made a total of three trips back before we gave up on getting a refund. Luckily, we found a hotel not far away with a nice room. My sister and brother in law were staying at the Tirreno at the same time. Their room was much nicer though not great. They had booked it with AAA. Perhaps there are "good" and "bad" rooms at this hotel. At any rate, we feel our money should have been cheerfully refunded. Upon returning home, we were able to get a refund from the credit card company ,but a lot of time and energy were spent in trying to rectify a bad situation.
