I have to say I was a bit concerned as to what I might find after reading some of the reviews. However, I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The rooms were very comfortable and quiet (although admitedly I was at the back of the hotel). The hotel staff were also very willing to offer help.

I had 3 rooms in a week. The noise from the street was such that I thought WWIII was going on on the other side of the glass. I was first given such a tiny room with such a tiny bathroom that I could not envision spending 7 nights in this rathole. I asked for a larger room which was given to me not without the employee at the desk showing his displeasure... the second room was bigger, but also noisier, so they finally ( 2 nights later) gave us a fairly large room which was not as noisy.
The rooms are dark, the bathrooms are dark. Not many lights anywhere.
It was hot, and they gave us a few hours of a/c one night. The rest of the time it was hot, hot, hot, and of course you could not open the windows lest you wanted to lose your hearing.
Breakfast was barely edible.
Staff grumpy and condescending.
Hotel looked terrible since it is being restaured.
Never again.

Short walk (200 metres) to the Central Railway ,many restaurants,
laundrette ,supermarket,etc, and healthy walk to much sightseeing. On noisy main road but we were moved to quiet rear room after complaining. Rooms pretty dark/dingy but bigger than a lot in Europe.Breakfast quiet OK, not a huge range but you wont get too bored or hungry . We found staff at reception in particular very helpful and went out of their way to pack us (wife & I) a breakfast pack due to our early departure on a tour . Renovations badly needed and now being carried out but clean and comfortable.

I have pictures to prove it. Lobby and dining area appear to be damaged by fire based on large holes and black burns. The fire exits on every floor are blocked or lead to dead ends. Emergency Exit signs will guide you to dead end hallways and doors blocked by NEW drywall. One of two stairways is completely blocked by construction and plastic with scaffolds. Elevator trapped us and was broken several days. We had 5 rooms and all were filthy. Mold was in all bathrooms, on walls, ceiling, windows, and showers. You will leave sick from the dust and smell. They apologized because they have NO rooms in the entire building that are no smoking. The building is under complete construction and they told us not to expect it to be finished for over another year. They warned us NOT to walk outside the building after dark, but everyone in Rome eats after dark?? Taxis refused to pick us up on three occasions after the front desk called and we waited almost one hour before deciding to walk or take the Metro. See photos. I have plenty more that are even worse. Telephones in the rooms may have worked in the 1950's?
