I look for a hotel near Termini station because it is pretty central and, more importantly, because taking a bus or subway from Termini, you can get to anywhere in the city rapidly e.g. bus direct to St. Peter's or metro to Colosseum. I got what I thought was a good deal in Hotel Genova ($150 a night) though it was August of course. My room was pleasant and comfortable with good AC and was reasonable spacious. Bed was a little firm but OK. The bathroom was spacious and beautifully decorated with marble tiling. The shower, in contrast, was a triangular corner design and was really too tight (and I'm not big). I could see Americanus Magnus having some considerable difficulty manouvering in it. Linen face towels were provided. The breakfast was very modest, consisting largely of standardised and packaged items, machine coffee etc. There are some nice restaurants particularly on the Via Principe Amadeo which cuts across the Via Cavour and shops in the Termini station stay open late. On Sundays or Church holidays, Latin Mass with Gregorian Chant in nearby Sancta Maria Maggiore is an elevating experience.

We stayed for five nights between May and June 2008. The Hotel is renovated and looks nice.
The welcome at the reception was poor to fair, we arrived at 8:30 a.m. and were told that the room was not ready and we should come back at 10 or 11 a.m. that was not so nice.

The room was OK big bed and a smaller one. The room was clean but don't look under the bed. The sheets were clean.

The bathroom has no bathtub but it's ok. The AC was working nice.

the location is very good a 4 minutes walk to Santa Maria Maggiore, 4 minutes to Roma Termini were you can take the bus or train anywhere. and 6 minutes walk to Piazza del Republica.

Starting midnight you might encounter some crak junkies in the back streets around the hotel, but we never had a security problem.

Overall it was not bad. Just don'r expect a nice welcome and don't be too picky concerning cleaning and dusting and everything will be fine.

Great hotel, great service, overall excellent! We stayed 4 nights at Hotel Genova, had the best accommodation in Rome comparing to other experiences I’ve had. The rooms were a bit small, but very stylish and well equipped, the bathroom was super clean and everything in the hotel seemed brand new. I understood from the staff, who were very friendly and tried to assist us in English the best they could, that it has recently been remodeled.
The included breakfast was great, the hot servings seemed to be the same for the time we’ve stayed but the variety of the cold stuff was really vast so you can’t get tired for several days, and let’s face it event at home we usually eat the same stuff.
The location was also great 2 minutes walk from Termini station which has bus/train/subway connections to anywhere you would want to go and visit, so we didn’t waste time on traveling more than we had to. Getting to the airport at the end was also a snap, with direct trains running from the station every 30 minutes. I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a nice, clean, friendly hotel, located in a quiet area, close to public transportation. Would definitely stay again!

  • Liked — the location and quite zone
  • Disliked — poor English speaking ability of some staff members

We just returned from our Italian vacation. Overall, Hotel Genova was the best of any we stayed at in Rome, Florence and Venice.

We had a very large triple by European standards. The bathroom was also pretty lush, with marble throughout. Everything was very clean and seemed very new.

The front desk staff was very helpful at directing us toward sights in the morning when we were ready to leave. The hotel also had a "full" breakfast, but the only difference between a full breakfast and a continental one was the presence of slightly runny eggs.

We really enjoyed the location of the hotel. Being right by Termini was a great location because of the proximity to public transportation and the ability to get out of the city easily. The area was sort of quiet at night (there were only a few restaurants in the area that stayed open past 11pm), but we enjoyed being a little bit away from the crowds.

  • Disliked — Would prefer free internet.
