My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Luxor the first week of October 2006 and again for one night before our flight home mid month, so we got to stay in two different rooms. Both were decorated in antiques and one had a beautiful mosaic floor . Both had remodeled, tiled, good sized, private bathrooms with plenty of hot water in the nice shower/tub combos. There are stairs but they are wide and easy to climb. There is a private safe in each room. There were flowers in the window boxes on the balconies. The breakfast was large with a good variety set up in a pretty dining room and the kitchen ladies made you what ever kind of coffee you wanted to drink. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us with tour problems even though it wasnt a tour company that they usually worked with. The restaurant recommendation we got from them was so great we ate there 3 times! They arranged for an affordable taxi to the airport in the early morning hours. The lobby is gorgeous, though small with no bar area. My ONLY complaint is that the pillows were hard and thin and the mattresses could probably be replaced, too. We definately would stay there again as the location is unbeatable for convenient walking around Rome.

  • Liked — The location was unbeatable for walking everywhere in the "tourist attraction" part of Rome.
  • Disliked — Hard pillows, pour mattress condition, no lounge area in lobby.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask for a room with mosaic floors, molded ceilings, etc. They are so pretty.

We booked last minute at hotel Luxor, reviews seemed OK & it was within the price range we were looking for. Location was perfect, it was the best thing about the hotel. Other than that the hotel was basic. The bathroom was TINY even by European standards & the bed springs were loose, a big problem if you have a bad back. We never tried breakfast because the hotel didnt seem too enticing & we preferred the cafe next door. Dont be fooled by the TV, even though the guy at the reception insisted there were 2 English channels, the only English we heard was on MTV songs. Other than that all Italian & German channels. The hotel staff was OK, though hardly friendly by Italian standards, we expected a warmer attitude. All in all we wont stay there again, we can do much better at these price ranges if we planned well, but if you're stuck on time & absolutely need to go to Rome, this hotel does it.

We just spent 3 nights in sunny Rome in early October.

Hotel Luxor is well located, just off via Nazionale. Only 5 min walk from Termini and about 15 min walk to Trevi Fountain.

The hotel room that we were given was very clean. The bathroom was spotless with lovely large soft white towels which were replaced every day. However, it was TINY. If you are a large person, do not stay in this hotel or you will be unable to use the toilet / shower facilities.

The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. However, we found it a little strange that the hotel could not provide an iron for use in the room.

The breakfast was awful......we only went the first morning. It wasn't worth returning to on the subsequent mornings.
Stale bread rolls, orange/pink coloured water instead of proper orange juice, tiny little ramekin bowls instead of proper breakfast cereal bowls, luke warm milk instead of cold milk for cereal. I can't comment on the coffee but the tea wasn't great....but that's a general problem in Rome rather than in this hotel.

There's a "despar" grocery shop across the road on Via Nazionale....buy your breakfast supplies there :-)

I found our room to be noisy. I could clearly hear activities in the adjacent room and the traffic on via Nazionale. There were a lot of channels on the TV but none in English....not even CNN!!

Would I recommend this hotel? Well, that depends. It's location suited us perfectly and it was clean. It's expensive enough for what you get.....I wouldn't have considered it a 3* hotel. But, we found Rome to be very expensive in all aspects, so the hotel price was probably in keeping with all other prices in Rome.

We stayed at Hotel Luxor in Rome for 4 nights. Our room was fairly small, and the furnishings were a bit old, however, we found it clean, and the staff to be very nice.

We did find the location to be great. It was a five minute walk to the Repubblica Metro station and less than ten minutes to the Termini station. Though our feet got a little tired, we did walk to all of the attractions from the hotel. The neighborhood seemed very safe. We found a great market around the corner on Via Nazionale and a block away, where we could stock up on snacks and drinks (bottles of water were .25 euro and in back of the store was a nice selection of wine that we found to be very inexpensive).

Price and location were most important to us, and we were not disappointed.

This hotel is in a good price range for its location. The staff are very helpful and the rooms may be small, but they are very clean. The breakfast is not grand, but it does the job. Main attractions like the Colesseum and Trevi Fountain are in walking distance.

I would stay here again!
