Easy enough to walk to the Hotel Mondial with our luggage. The allocated double room was rejected by the Bell Boy due to the heavy smoke odour. The next room had two single beds which the Chamber Maid quickly converted to a double! The room itself was smallish but adequate with a safe in the wardrobe. It was quite well furnished and the bathroom even had a bidet - great for a foot soak after trudging around the sweltering city! There was a good choice for breakfast, both hot and cold buffets.
The Opera House is directly opposite the hotel and there's a good selection of eating places nearby, some more expensive than others. Just around the corner we came upon the Piazza Republica where we found the famous Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. It took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Coliseum. The Hotel Mondial is also quite close to the Hop-on hop-off bus tour stop near the station Termini. Good value for a central location.
