Have just spent four days at this hotel and on the whole very pleased with it. Unlike previous reviews we have read, we found the hotel staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful. We arrived at the hotel at 11.30am and were able to check in straightaway. There was a very good choice at breakfast (although the only hot foods were scrambled eggs and bacon). The hotel was well located for the Termini but quite a long walk to the major sights. However, the Metro was very convenient for travelling to the Vatican (only 1 Euro each way).

The only slight complaint we had was that our room looked nothing like the bedroom photos shown on Hotels.com (and I think the hotel's own website). The room was quite basic and although advertised as having a combined shower/tub, we only had a shower.
Tea/coffee making facilities would also have been appreciated.

When we check in, the reception apparently did not get our booking . Weird, as we receive their confirmation. To make a long story short, we have encountered a not so helpful staff, A certain lack of professionalism, a bit fed up with the chinese tourists ? This is the impression that we got. Pity as the hotel is well situated , 5 mns from bus and station.

As a base for exploring Rome, this hotel is ideal. We stayed in a Superior Double room and it is probably one of the biggest rooms I've ever had anywhere in Europe. Very clean, very friendly staff, perfect location opposite Termini.

Some tips:
- they only have two English speaking tv channels and no movies for rent, so if you want something to do to relax at night, perhaps take a laptop and some dvds
- internet access, though very good, isn't cheap, 10 Euros for an hour, 17 for 24 hours
- wander up to the roof garden, great views over to the Vatican
- there are loads of good places to eat in the streets behind the hotel. We can recommend L'Europa, a cafe style place that does excellent home cooked Italian food, very cheap
- there is a great supermarket opposite Santa Maria Maggiore (underneath a dept store). Buy wine there for the evening, as the hotel will open it for you free of charge(ask at bar)

The room was fabulous - spacious, clean with a huge bathroom with the extra amenities like robes, slippers etc that make a hotel special. The staff was always helpful with making recommendations, reservations and calling for confirmations. Breakfast was more than adequate. The location was convenient for us since we came into Rome by train and it is just a short walk from the station but it is a good walk from any of the other major attractions. We walked to most of all of them and it is do- able but be prepared to hike...an hour to the Vatican as an estimate. Some complained about the noise but we were up on the 5th floor and didn't really notice it any more than any other busy city. Definitely would recommend this hotel to others. Take a minute it visit the garden restaurant on the rooftop for the view if not for the food.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Mediterraneo in Rome but it was noisy in the mornings during rush hour. You can't beat the location though. It's a block from Termini station which is what we wanted so we could get to other cities by train easily. It is also pretty close to the major attractions. We had a really nice, spacious room, nice bathroom with a bathtub, almost the size of an American size hotel room. Great view of the city. It also has a great garden restaurant on the 10th floor with views of the city while you dine. It was cold while we were there so we only stopped by to check it out so I don't know if the food is good. The staff was not the friendliest but they helped somewhat when we asked questions. The maid in our floor was really nice though. There are a lot of other hotels around so if you don't need to worry about being close to the station, find a quieter area of Rome to stay in. The breakfast was mediocre at best so we skipped it a couple of days. We were there for 5 nights. I would recommend the hotel to others but warned them that it's noisy in the mornings since it's on a main street.
