Classical Roman hotel, well situated to transport hub (coach/train/metro) and for exploring the city itself.

Despite the size of our party, we were allocated five rooms all on the eigth floor, far enough away from what is a very busy main street into the central transport hub that is Terminus rail/metro, coach and bus stations.
We arrived as part of a larger group of 30+ and our courier had already made the necessary arrangements for key collection, so it is not practical to say how Reception would have managed our check-in. However, check-out was done individually and this was polite, quick and efficient.
Our stay included breakfast which was comprehensive and varied to suit most tastes, from juices, cereals, croissants, various bread and rolls plus condiments, through to cooked meats and cheeses, to bacon & scrambled eggs, fruit or yoghurt. Less satisfactory was the single coffee dispensing machine which produced excellent but slow results - there was invariably a queue for this and I recall from a visit two years ago, that the staff then would walk the room with coffee and tea pots, which was far more efficient.
On a note of caution, the hotel is not very "access all areas" i.e. for those in a wheelchair or with a walking disability: there are lifts to all floors - including the roof terrace and restaurant - but the ground floor foyer facilities (breakfast room, bar, seating areas) are all accessed by a short flight of stairs opposite reception.
The ensuite bedroom was excellent, well cleaned on arrival and maintained daily throughout our stay. It was good to have plenty of storage space with a wardrobe and drawers, bedside table, writing desk, plus dressing table, tv, coffee table and chairs. The bathroom was on the small side but adequate. The air-con appeared to be set to its winter function of heating only, rather than cooling, so it was Plan B (opening the window) but I guess that on the lower floors this option would be less suitable, due to traffic and street noise. I would also recommend a room above numbers -01 to -10, as these are nearest the elevators and friends found the incessant "bong" of their arrival wearisome, despite the double-doors that are fitted to the bedrooms. By contrast, further along the corridor in the rooms numbered from -11 upwards, I was not disturbed by this noise.
The staff whom I encountered during my stay all appeared to be friendly and helpful, from the maid to the bar waiters and breakfast room waitresses, dealing promptly with our requests and fully meeting our needs.
Overall, the Mediterraneo proved a very satisfactory and convenient hotel for the price.

I was here with my mother and sister August 2007. It was a nice art deco hotel with a great location and friendly staff. Close to the central station so that you can just cross the street with your luggage and you're there.. And a nice point of departure for exploring Rome.

This is an excellent hotel which I would highly recommend. It’s within a very short walking distance of the rail and bus station, and also the subway, so the location is great for planning sightseeing trips. We booked a triple room and were automatically upgraded to a very spacious room on the ninth floor with a high ceiling. It was well decorated with a floor-to-ceiling mirror on one wall and nice finishes, and it had a very large bathroom. There view was very limited and the window shutters were tightly closed, but guests receive an invitation to enjoy a free glass of champagne at the rooftop patio restaurant which has a terrific view of Rome especially at sunset. Our only complaint is that we had the misfortune of being situated directly beneath this restaurant, so some shuffling noises kept us awake at night, and the air conditioning unit was a bit noisy, too. There was good variety in the breakfast, which included eggs, some meat and cheeses, as well as the standard pastries. Unfortunately, the hotel’s wireless Internet access is very expensive as it is provided by Swisscom and we could not justify using it to check just a few e-mails. There are not many restaurants located next to the hotel. There is a mall on the ground floor of the rail station in case any supplies are needed. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there.

  • Liked — Spacious and elegant room.

Hotel is in a great location across from Termini Station. The reception area and lobby was nice, and the reception staff allowed us to check in a couple of hours early.

Our room was lovely, a good size with a large bed, which was a little hard but we got used to it. Room looked directly out onto the main road so was very very noisy when the window was open. The room was clean and tidy and the bathroom was large and clean, and there is an excellent daily maid service.

Only problem we had was that the air conditioning unit was very noisy, and even when we had it set to off, it was still making just as much noise as when it was on.

The breakfast selection was good, and the food was nice.

Overall, this is a good hotel for the price.

There are a couple of restaurants nearby which are very expensive, we found that Il Tavolinetto, on Via Rosmini (walk down Via Cavour out of the hotel, second street on the right) was excellent, it was the cheapest we found, the food was delicious, nicer than some of the more expensive places nearby and the service was great.

Would also recommend using one of the many open top hop on hop off bus tours (we used 110open) as they stop at all the main places, with an audio tour, price is reasonable and the services are frequent. The public transport in Rome didnt seem to be so good, with the metro not running to most of the main attractions and buses always seemed very busy.

  • Liked — Location, clean, comfortable, roof top bar is well worth a visit
  • Disliked — noisy air conditioning

We went to Italy for our honeymoon and used Gate1travel to book all our accomodations. They had two choices for hotels in Rome, this hotel and another. The other had horrible reviews on tripadvisor, so we picked this hotel, despite rather negative reviews as well.

I must say that the past reviews I read were wrong! This hotel was great. It was in a good location, within walking distance to the colosseum and right next to the train station and both major metro lines.

Our room was on the 8th floor and was georgous. There was a ton of storage, a computer with internet ( you did have to pay to use it) a mini fridge, queen sized bed and a very large bathroom. Everything was clean and they even provided complimentary snacks, a bottle of water and teabags. I know we got a better room because the staff knew we were on our honeymoon, but I couldn't be happier with the service we received at this hotel. The only sad thing was that we had two french doors with balconies, only they had a metal covering 3/4 of the way down as a safety feature. The light still was able to shine through, but it is sad that they can no longer be used for what they were originally intended for. It would have been nice to cuddle on the balcony and enjoy the signts of Rome.

Breakfast was included with our room and we were happy to see a nice spread of european breads, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, fruit etc. They also had a very cool cappuccino machine.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we already know that if we return to Rome someday, we will stay at this hotel again.

  • Liked — The hotel was very very nice and clean
  • Disliked — The bed was very firm, but we found out that ALL beds in Italy are firm
