My girlfriend and I stayed at the Giolli for two nights. The first night we were given a room that stank of cigarette smoke, so much so, that our clothes/hair smelled like smokers the following morning. We complained to the receptionist and were given a new room, which was smaller, but a lot better furnished.

The reception staff were nice and helpful, however the waiter in the breakfast room refused to make me a fresh cup of coffee, telling me to use the jug of coffee on the drinks table. I tried it, and it had obviously been there for hours. He then proceeded to make two seperate Italian guests a fresh cup not five minutes later, right in front of me!

Overall, the hotel is well located but needs to up its game. I won't return here in a hurry.

I travelled with a group of people and chose the hotel for the location and price. It's within walking distance to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Piazza Navona and Coloseum. Reception is on the 1st floor and the lift is tiny, 1 person only with luggage.

Rooms were quite big, and I'd recommend them for families as there is a curtain separating the single beds from the double so it gives a little privacy. Rooms facing the front are noisy, even though they have double glazed windows. It has A/C but it only operates in summer, and it was pretty warm when we stayed so we just left the window open while we were out to cool it down.

I knew the hotel wasn't going to be luxurious and ultimately there's so much to see and do in Rome that you only need a bed and bathroom. Simply put it served the purpose. Breakfast was quite adequate, better than expected. The cafe/wine shop 2 doors down from hotel has great food at very good prices.

With sightseeing at the Coloseum I'd recommend you hire the audio guide for an extra 4euro as it saves you queuing in the huge line.

I had been reading a lot on Tripadvisor about different hotels in Rome. We wanted a central position for our daily walking thruogh the City. We, my wife and I, found that Giolli Hotel was on the list from our travel agnency and I have been staying in the same area before so we took Giolli hotel for 4 nights.
No problem with room 128, first hotelfloor, the room in the back. A silent room!! Bigger than the others, what we know of.
But still expensive if you compere with other Hotels in Rome, Cellini as exempel. But it was alright but NO luxery. Sleeping for the night a bath as simple as that....A TV with a screen small as a computorscreen. The beds hard but not unpleasent. Change of sheets and tovels is OK.
But still we could have it better...it will not be a second time on this Hotel. Its a pity that we was in the hands of the Travel Agency and there list of Hotels. Never more I will go through a Agency.
I will reading more on Tripadvisor of the first/second degreehotels on the TopTen before I go somewhere!!
Do that Yourself so you dont miss the best!

Just back from 4 days in Rome, had a lovely trip, but was disappointed by the Hotel.

The Reception is on the first floor & you access by a tiny lift. Rooms were compact, boardering on small but acceptable. There was a tiny TV ( about 20 years old) The shower spluttered hot & cold every day( old pipe works I suspect)
Breakfast was basic .

The best thing about the hotel was the location, its very central & despite the fact that itwas a very basic Hotel, we enjoyed Rome immensely. The weather was great, the sightseeing in Rome was fantastic.

We paid €550 for a 3 night stay in the Giolli, which is not cheap, but I would say this is a 2 star hotel.Not a 3 star !. Anyway I dont want to put anyone off, but Rome was superb, would shop around for a nicer hotel next time around
