I have just arrived back after staying two days at the Claridge in Rome. The staff was extremely helpful in making arrangements for tours and a taxi to take me to the airport on the day I left. I did an On & Off Bus one afternoon in Rome and took a city bus #52 to the central city to get on. Everyone was very helpful in directing me to the correct locations. The hotel breakfast was absolutely great, fresh fruit, yogurt, rolls, toast, juice, cereal, eggs, meats & cheeses, Italian coffee is strong so I appreciated the machine. The cups are even kept in a warmer. The room is spotless and I wish I had a marble bathroom at home. The supermarket was a great place to get water etc. The hotel even had American style ice cubes!! I was very pleased and would stay there again.

My husband, 13-year-old daughter, and I just returned from a 6-night stay at the Claridge. We used this hotel as part of a Globus tour, and we are very happy that we did!

The hotel had the room ready as soon as the Globus shuttle dropped us off (late morning). Our triple room consisted of a king sized bed for us and twin bed for our daughter. We didn't feel at all cramped - by European standards this was a big room! The beds were quite firm, but very comfortable. The room had a flat screen tv, internet access (for a fee), nice fridge with room for our own drinks, and a wonderful bathroom. The bathroom was done in beautiful marble and there was a great selection of toiletries. Our daughter loved the towel warmer!

We were very impressed with how clean the room and the entire hotel was. Maid service is excellent and you can just ask the front desk to schedule cleaning at the time convenient for you.

Speaking of the front desk, every employee was friendly and helpful. They all spoke English very well and were extremely accomodating. They have maps of the city and will help you figure out how to get where you want to go. Two trams stop right next to the hotel, and a bus is just a couple of blocks away, so it's very easy to get to every area of the city.

I must mention that this hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood about 20-30 minutes from the popular tourist sites. It's a very safe area, and perfect for people like us who don't want to be in the busy downtown areas 24/7.

You must try the Taverna Rossini restaurant, which is very close to the hotel. We ate there frequently and the food and service was top notch. It was also nice to have a supermarket across the street, as well as an ATM.

We enjoyed the breakfast. The trick to getting a good cup of espresso or cappucino is to ask the waiter, rather than getting it from the machine. They will bring it to you free of charge, and they will also bring you a glass of the red orange juice if you ask. Breakfast offered both hot and cold items, although we skipped the scrambled eggs in favor of the wonderful pastries and yogurts, cereal, and fruit.

I stayed at this hotel in November for three nights prior to doing a cruise. What a wonderful hotel. So clean and fresh looking. My room really looked like I was the very first person to have ever stayed there. I booked it through Expedia for 99 euros per night including breakfast and taxes.
The hotel has obviously been recently renovated and now looks fantastic. I had single room 404, a corner room on the 4th floor. New wide screen LCD television with keyboard attached for internet access (small extra charge for internet). Safe in the room. Small balcony. Lots of toiletries. Wonderful shower with multiple heads. Continental breakfast was included and had enough food to keep me going till dinner time.
There is a very good (and hot) small sauna and steam room as well as exercise room on main floor.
Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. They have a sheet of paper that gives you all the transit information details from the hotel.
There is a supermarket across the street.
The hotel is located outside the city centre but it is very easy to use public transit. The first day, I walked through the park and went to the amazing Villa Borghese. Well worth a visit. From there, I continued through the park to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Next day, I went to the Vatican and walked up the steps to the top of St. Peter’s Basilica for a fantastic view of the city. Then, to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Lots of expresso and gelato helped sustain me.
Recommendations: bring comfortable walking shoes (this is a great walking city), buy a daily transit pass from a convenience store, have dinner at Taverna Rossini close to the hotel at Viale G. Rossini 54.
I will certainly stay at this hotel again.

Location: Walking times - Termini station 30 minutes, Colosseum 45, Spanish Steps 35. Bus/Tram to Termini, Colosseum (No. 3) or Vatican (No .19). Taxi from Termini should be around 15 euros. Area - dull, leafy, but above all safe (think Paris 16e, London St John's Wood, Manhattan E 31 - 40 Sts). Eating options - aimed towards business lunches but reasonable choice in the evening, especially the excellent Rossini just round the corner. Numerous tabacchi, news stands nearby. Do not understand other reviewer's complaints about location - very central Rome hotels tend to be small, noisy, expensive and this offers an excellent balance

Hotel: Small but modern and stylish. Helpful concierge staff speak fluent English and offer impartial advice. Bar cheap (3 euros for decent double scotch) and well stocked, breakfast is hearty, fresh and with a wide choice - well above par for tourist hotels. A notable benefit is the four hour window for breakfast, catering to both business and leisure travellers. Only negative was the small lifts, those with enormous luggage may have to go up one at a time!

Room: Stylish, comfortable, genuine four star by European standards. Excellent glazing and light-proof curtains ensure a decent night's sleep. Those who like thick soft mattresses may be disappointed as the beds are quite firm but still comfortable. Large flat screen TV with Sky, BBC, CNN plus Italian channels. Pay content and minibar were very cheap by normal standards. Shelf in fridge left free for own drinks. Negatives - no iron, toilet flush a little temperamental.

Overall: For the moderately seasoned city sight-seer who doesn't need to fall out of bed and down the Spanish Steps - Claridge offers an excellent balance and a great base for seeing the city. Highly recommended.
