This is a great hotel, and I second the opinions from the reviewer on 12/26. You can't beat the location, and the hotel staff are EXCELLENT. Breakfast is nothing spectacular, but it's included in the rate and sufficient. Yes, the rooms are small - but you're staying near the Spanish Steps for a very good rate.

I stayed at this hotel 7 years ago as well, and continue to be impressed with the service and value.

We stayed at Condotti for 4 days at the beginning of our 2 week trip to Italy and then again 3 days at the end. We weren't sure where we were staying at the end of our trip, but we had such a good experience at the beginning of our trip that we decided to come back. Though some reviewers were unhappy with the fact that the rooms were around the corner from reception and that they had to walk a few feet to a coffee bar for breakfast we found this of no inconvenience at all. If you travel at all in Europe you understand that rooms are far smaller than in the U.S. We found the rooms clean and comfortable. We actually stayed both in the hotel proper and the rooms around the corner. While those around the corner are newer, the ones in the hotel proper are more charming. They're older and less ample than the newer ones. If you stay in the hotel itself, breakfast is served in the basement. If you're looking for that kind of convenience, you should ask if you can stay at the hotel itself. Otherwise, breakfast is pretty similar in both places (you serve yourself at the hotel; are served at the coffee bar). The lady making the coffees in the basement is a lovely soul with a beautiful voice which she uses to sing some beautiful notes.
We recommend this place for people who know what to expect when traveling abroad. It is a nice little oasis.
We found the folks to be very helpful and kind. There was a young woman who was particularly helpful and with a wonderful New York accent when speaking English.

Condotti Hotel very close to the oh so chic Via Condotti in Rome is in an excellent location to shops, restaurants, the Spanish Steps (2 blocks away). It is a very good 3-star hotel with excellent and helpful front desk personnel. The room was very nicely appointed and looks updated in the last 5-10 years. The bathroom was modern, clean with an American stand-up shower. Better than average bath soaps and bath gels that are non-drying--unusual in Italy. Breakfast, included, was very nice with cute Italian lady serving made to order cafe. The room that was had was very quiet but we heard another couple complain about street noise. The hotel is in the middle of everything. Especially recommend Shaki at the corner for a nice selection of lunch salads which are a true rarity in Rome or Italy for that matter.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Condotti recently while in Rome.

While not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination, it was perfectly suitable to us for our first time in Rome - inexpensive (compared to most places in Rome) and clean.

However, the best part about the Hotel Condotti is its location - right next to the Spanish Steps (25 metres at most), in the heart of the exclusive shopping area of Rome. For this, it was perfect.

The staff were perfectly accomodating, even when, on the last morning, we had no water (not just no hot water, but no water at all). We were given a room in one of their other properties (around the corner - 2 min walk) and a 30% discount on the overnight rate.

2 things to note. If you are coming from the airport, it is 10 - 20 euro's cheaper to take a taxi, rather than booking their limousine service. Also, the rooms in their "other properties" are nicer - try to get an upgrade from the main hotel building.

Overall, a good place to stay. Would we stay there again in Rome? - yes, if we were after something cheap....no, if we were after something a little more romantic and special.

  • Disliked — The lack of water on one night!

The rooms are nice but not luxurious, so the rack rate seemed pretty expensive to me. The last minute rates are better value for money. Some of the staff were helpful and others were not.

However, what really pissed me off was that my wedding ring was stolen from my room. I don't really know who was responsible, but at least some of the staff did not seem to fussed by this. Of course, I should not have left it in the room, but I was very disappointed to have it stolen.

Management response from Condotti, rooms division manager
(Management representative)
Jan 21, 2008
Thank you for staying with the Condotti and taking the time to write your opinion. We of course were all upset to learn that you "lost" your wedding ring and then insisted on accusing our staff of having stolen it. I think that this strong terminology on your part offended our staff and perhaps for that reason they seemed to be unpleasant to you. Our staff is usually great and most people love them! I personally do not know exactly what happened to your ring and can empathize with you but in over 15 years of service in this Hotel we have NEVER had anything stolen by one of our staff. I assure you that your room was turned upside down in search of this ring and unfortunately nothing was found. We provide a safe deposit box in every room, free of charge, for valuables and invite all of our guests to use them.
