My husband and I planned our trip to Italy largely based on Trip Advisor recommendations. We spent our first four nights at the Marcella Royal Hotel. The corner suite was suggested and we are so glad we spent a little extra Euro and got the larger room with two balconies! The decorating is different than I would have expected, with bright blue flowered fabric walls, but still very clean and very spacious by any standards.
The staff was wonderful, friendly and extremely helpful by answering our endless "tourist" questions. Our room was always perfectly made up each day and always turned down at night. One evening we had trouble with our Internet connection and they sent someone up TWICE to help us, and extended the Internet time we purchased. That is the only suggestion we would make.... free internet should be included. We found the other hotels around Italy that we stayed in, which actually cost less, provided in-room, free internet , but here they charge to connect. A small detail, but it did seemed significant at the time.
The location of the hotel is not centrally located, but we found it was convenient for walking to the train station and to a tour bus pickup location. Also a nice stroll to several tourist attractions. No huge crouds to deal with and the area had some very nice little restaurants/cafes/bars... some were excellent with great food and friendly staff. One was awful, (Lorenzo's I think) but that's apt to happen anywhere. We did not eat dinner in the hotel restaurant, so I can't comment on the evening meals.
Every morning we enjoyed the roof top breakfast buffet, which was very good. Everything was fresh and well presented. Since it is very expensive to eat breakfast out each day, the buffet is an excellent value and great battery charger before heading out for a long day of sight seeing.
We loved Rome and The Vatican (use Angel Tours) and would highly recommend this hotel whether it be your first trip to Rome or your tenth.
